3.2 Perfect Squares, Perfect Cubes, and Their Roots
Definitions:
Perfect Square:
Perfect Cube:
In general, there are two ways of calculating the square roots and cube
roots of a whole number.
□ Using Prime Factorization
□ Guess and check
Example: Find the square root of 1764 without a calculator.
Example: What is the cube root of 2744? How can we use a picture to
represent this question?
Exercise:
1. Write the expression for the surface area of this tent. Do not
include the floor.
2. Suppose the surface area of the tent is 90 square feet. Calculate x.
Homework: Page 146 #6-8, 13, 15(a,b)
