Document Summary
 Some customers may report receiving a 60.02 lift motor error or grinding noise from Tray 2 or
that Tray 2 will not pick paper.
 This frequently occurs immediately out of box, but can occur after some time of operation.
 This document outlines a potential solution for units that may have experienced mild damage
during shipping.

Issue Description:
Some customers may report receiving a 60.02 lift motor error or grinding noise
from Tray 2 or that Tray 2 will not pick paper. This frequently occurs
immediately out of box, but can occur after some time of operation.
First, this may occur if the printer unit is not on a flat, level surface. For example, if
the unit is on the edge of a table, the edge of the table will apply enough pressure
to the bottom of tray 2 as to cause either a 60.02, no-picks from Tray 2 or Tray 2
being very difficult to remove.
It’s possible that the printer may have experienced mild damage during shipment,
where the rear crossbar on the chassis (behind Tray 2) bows inward, pushing Tray 2
slightly forward and out of a completely inserted position. See photos below.
Rear cover normally bows slightly
inward – but not as much as seen in
picture on right
Rear cover removed, showing crossbar on
chassis bowing inward more than normal.

Troubleshooting:
1. Check for other signs of shipping damage around the printer, including the left
and right front door hinges and the rear output rollers. (See “shipping damage”
issue document.) If there is additional shipping damage, replace the printer.
2. If there appears to be no other shipping damage, the customer may be able to
fix this problem over the phone.
This can be done with the printer in one of two positions: either on the edge of a
desk/table or on the floor.
Edge of Desk/Table
This requires that the customer be very cautious so as not to pull the printer off the
desk/table on to himself or the floor.
 Remove Tray 2
 Position the rear of the printer over the edge of a flat, stable surface to
provide access to the area behind Tray 2
 Reach under and behind the rear cover, feeling for the metal crossbar.
 Using the other hand or shoulder to brace against the printer, carefully pull
the crossbar outward, being VERY careful to keep the printer from sliding off
the table.
Note: Not much force should be required to pull the rear crossbar to a more
straight position.

Position the printer on the edge of a
flat, stable surface, such as a table.
Use one hand to press against the rear
of the printer and the other to pull the
crossbar straight.
If the customer is uncomfortable with this procedure, ask the customer to place the
printer on the floor.
Floor Repair
The printer itself weighs approximately 100 lbs including cartridges and Tray 2, so
two people will be required to safely place the printer on the floor and prevent risk
of hurting the customer or damaging the printer.
 Remove all four cartridges – critical since the printer will be on its side.
 Remove Tray 2
 Place the printer on the floor
 Gently lay the printer down on the left side (left side, as you face the front of
the printer)
 Use one hand to carefully pull the crossbar outward while using the other
hand to brace against the printer.
Note: Not much pressure is required to straighten the crossbar enough to
prevent the 60.3 lift motor error and/or grinding noise.
3. If the customer is unwilling or unable to straighten the rear crossbar, send a
technician with instructions on how to straighten the rear crossbar.
4. Once the crossbar is straightened, have the customer or tech print internal pages
from Tray 2 to confirm that there are no other issues with the printer, such as a
10.92.00 error (missing black color plane).
