The Digestive system
The digestive system begins in the
mouth. Saliva is produced here and
the breakdown of food begins. The
saliva helps the food move down the
gullet and into the stomach.
In the stomach, the food is crushed
and broken down using strong
muscles, as well as a strong acid.
The Gullet
The Liver produces a substance
called bile which helps to break
down fat, which is added to the
digesting food after it leaves the
stomach.
The Small
Intestine
The Large
Intestine
The food then travels down the Small
intestine where all the nutrients are
absorbed into the blood.
In the large intestine, all the water is
removed leaving only waste.
The waste is stored in the Rectum
and then moves through the Anus
when we go to the toilet.
