Introduction
History
The Asthma Support (ASPICC) database was developed to record specialist nurse follow-up for
patients attending Accident & Emergency (A&E) or contacting Grampian Doctors on Call (GDOCS).
Patients or their parent, in the case of a child, are asked to complete a follow-up questionnaire the
month after the original asthma attack. Thereafter, the patients are reviewed on a 6-monthly basis.
Overview of Database
2 Megabytes of information relating to the Aberdeen Asthma Support database is held on an Access
Database within the Chest Clinic at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The database holds respiratory and treatment information for patients corresponding to 6-monthly
reviews following a severe asthma attack necessitating A&E attendance or GDOC support.
