Master Level Social Worker
Applications for master's level social worker positions will automatically be processed for both the Social Worker (Master's Level)
and Social Worker (Child Protection Specialist) (Master's Level) eligible registers.
County Agency Social Worker (Master's Level)
Series 016
$2485-4422/Month
Does professional social work requiring a high degree of skill and knowledge, is normally assigned to a position providing
intensive social services to families with defined problems, may perform social work services in an area of specialization, such as
group work or community organization.
Minimum qualifications of education and experience: 1) master's degree in social work from an accredited college/university
with a supervised field placement providing case management and/or counseling services to individuals and families; or 2)
master's degree from an accredited college/university in counseling or clinical psychology with a specialization (39 quarter credits
or 30 semester credits) in marriage, family or child counseling based on a two year program (72 quarter credits or 56 semester
credits) and which includes a supervised field placement providing case management and/or counseling to individuals and
families as part of the course curriculum.
Examination process: The examination will consist entirely of a rating of education and experience.
County Agency Social Worker (Child Protection Specialist) (Master's Level)

Provides intensive social work services for the protection, rehabilitation and care of children, investigates complaints of abuse and
neglect, provides preventive services to the dependent and neglected child and undertakes intensive long or short term treatment
plans in areas such as family management, marital counseling and child care and development.
Minimum qualifications of education and experience: 1) master's degree in social work from an accredited college/university
with a supervised field placement providing case management and/or counseling services to individuals and families; or 2)
master's degree from an accredited college/university in counseling or clinical psychology with a specialization (39 quarter credits

Minimum qualifications of education and experience: 1) two years of home management experience which includes child care
experience; or 2) two years of college coursework with emphasis in home economics, child development, health, social work,
sociology, psychology, or a related behavioral science. Candidates must indicate the total number of years of home
management and child care experience on an attachment to the application.
Examination process: The examination will consist entirely of a experience and training rating. Candidates will be asked to
complete a supplementary questionnaire which covers:
 education;
 knowledge of child development and child care methods;
 experience providing training on a one-to-one basis or to small groups;
 experience working in an agency providing social services;
 knowledge of home management principles; and
 written communications.

Determines eligibility of clients for income maintenance programs according to federal, state and county standards, assists
individuals in completing the application forms for income maintenance programs, maintains complete and accurate records on
client's eligibility and performs related work.
Minimum qualifications of education and experience: 1) three years of clerical experience and/or experience working with the
public or some combination of the two, totaling three years; or 2) two years of clerical experience in a public welfare/human
service agency; or 3) two years of study at an accredited two or four-year college or similar institution, with emphasis in the
behavioral sciences, business or closely related subjects (at least 23 quarter or 16 semester credits); or 4) successful completion
of the technical college Public Welfare Financial Worker diploma or AAS degree program (applicants must be within six months of
completion of the program)*; or 5) successful completion of the technical college Public Welfare Financial Worker Certificate
Program will substitute for one year of the required clerical experience or experience working with the public. *A candidate must
indicate the anticipated date of graduation on the application and attach a transcript to the application.
Examination process: The examination will consist entirely of a written test covering the following content areas: timed name
and number comparison test, math, reading comprehension and chart and graph interpretation. Those candidates who have
received a diploma or AAS degree from the technical college programs for financial worker and who attain passing scores on the
written examination will have 10 bonus points added to their written exam scores. Such candidates must provide proof of
graduation before receiving the 10 points.
