5. Course description:
This course provides a conceptual base to help student build a strong theoretical base to
support nursing judgment, to address principles of nursing care that are common across many
health and illness situations, and to assist the student to learn essential principle for care of
children and families from which care for individual clients can then be adapted.
6. Course objectives:
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
1). recognize the unique role and function of pediatric nurses;
2). identify the children and families' needs of different developmental stage, and health
alterations,
3). utilize communication skill and therapeutic play in establishing interpersonal
relationship with clients and group,
4). utilize the nursing process in a variety of acute and chronic health problem of clients
at selected ages and stage of development,
5). demonstrate the therapeutic psychomotor skills for providing nursing care, based on
3C model and theoretical knowledge.
7. Teaching/Learning strategies:
A variety of methods will be used including lecture, discussions, clinical practice, case
studies, video materials and assigned reading activities.
8. Methods of Evaluation:
In addition to regular attendance in class, each student is responsible for all course content
and announcements transmitted in lectures, handouts, video-materials, and required readings.
