Yeats and Lady Gregory. The Theatre is located only a moment’s walk from O’Connell Street in Dublin’s city centre. Facilities The theatre offers a fully stocked bar with an extensive wine list in comfortable surroundings. The bar opens one hour before the performance. The coffee dock in the Abbey foyer is open daily from 9.30am Monday – Saturday. Patrons can pre-order their interval drinks. Accessibility The Abbey Theatre is fully accessible by wheelchair. However, while there is a coffee bar on the ground floor of the Abbey foyer, the lounge upstairs is not wheelchair accessible. A member of the front of house team can arrange pre-show or interval drinks for consumption downstairs in the Abbey foyer on request. The Peacock auditorium is partially accessible for wheelchair users with a lift provided for the use of patrons in need of wheelchair access. The lift can be accessed at the main entrance to the Peacock auditorium, just to the left of the stairs. There are four wheelchair spaces available at the Irish Life car park and these are located- through the entrance barriers, turn right, and right again, the spaces are next to the lift. If possible, please reserve at the time of booking. There is no hearing loop in the Peacock Theatre. 2 Parking The Irish Life Car Park on Lower Abbey Street offers discounted parking at €4.00 for the duration of evening shows (5.30pm to midnight) and Saturday matinees (1pm – 6pm). To avail of this offer prebook online at parkrite.ie Q Park, located just off Lower Abbey Street at Marlborough Street, offers an evening rate of €2 per hour, 17:00 to 09:00 the next morning. *N.B. Please be aware of potential diversions to driving routes around Abbey due to LUAS works.* Getting There If you are traveling by Dublin Bus you can take practically any route to the City Centre; many will stop on or near O’Connell Street which is within a five minute walk of the Abbey Theatre. If you are traveling by train, the nearest stations are Tara Street and Connolly Stations, and if you are traveling by Luas you should take the Red Line Luas to Abbey Street. 3 The Ark The Ark is a unique, purpose-built cultural centre in the heart of Dublin's Temple Bar, where children aged 2 -12 can explore theatre, music, literature, art, film, dance and more. Facilities The Ark is located beside numerous high quality restaurants and cafes in the Temple Bar area. Milanos restaurant on East Essex Street is a nice family friendly option. Accessibility The Ark welcomes all children to its programmes. The productions are open to children with individual requirements, and the physical spaces within The Ark are fully wheelchair accessible. Please note that the number of wheelchair spaces available for theatre events varies depending on the scale of the performance. Please contact the box office manager directly. Parking The Fleet Street (Temple Bar) Car Park is located just off Westmoreland Street. As soon as you enter Westmoreland Street turn left for Fleet Street and the car park is on the left (opposite The Morgan Hotel). The Fleet Street car park rate for visitors to The Ark is €5 for 3 hours. Any additional hours are charged at €3.10 per hour. To avail of the parking rate please present your ticket stub from The Ark, along with your parking ticket, when paying at the cash desk prior to collecting your car. 4 Getting There The Ark is located in the heart of Temple Bar, on Eustace Street, which links Dame Street, at the South Great George’s Street junction, and the Quays, at the Millennium Bridge. Luas Red Line runs from Tallaght to The Point and from Saggart to Connolly. Take the Luas to Jervis Luas Stop. The Luas Green Line runs from Brides Glen to St. Stephen's Green. Take Luas to St. Stephen’s Green Luas Stop and walk down Grafton Street towards Temple Bar. Alternatively, take any bus to Dame Street or College Green. Walk along Dame Street to the junction with South Great Georges Street and turn down Eustace Street towards the River Liffey. The Ark is located halfway down the street on the left. The buses servicing Dame Street include: 51, 56A, 65, 68, 69, 77, 79, 121, 123. The buses servicing College Green include: 16, 19, 49, 54A, 65, 83, 122, 123, 150. For more details and timetables, please see www.dublinbus.ie. 5 Axis:ballymun Axis is an arts centre and community resource centre in Ballymun, Dublin. It was opened in 2001 by a number of community development organisations and artist residents in the community. Axis aims to improve local availability of expertise, advice and information, both through the arts programme and by relationships with groups, individuals and organisations within Ballymun and the wider arts community in Ireland and abroad. Facilities A bar is available to patrons attending Axis shows. The bar opens from 7pm, during the interval, and after the show. Accessibility Axis advise wheelchair users to inform the box office when booking tickets for a theatre event in order to ensure all seating requirements are met. Accessible toilet facilities are available on the ground floor. The most convenient parking for wheelchair users is located opposite Axis on Shangan Road (outside the Ballymun Travel Lodge Hotel). Parking Ballymun has plenty of daytime parking options. With on-street parking available on Shangan Road, and parking available in the car park outside Ballymun Shopping Centre. There is evening underground parking available at Axis on show nights. Directions to this car park are available on the Axis website. Getting There Axis is located between the new Civic Offices (containing the Motor Tax Office and the new Health Centre) and the Travelodge Hotel. Axis is a glass and blue tile-fronted building. It is directly across the road from the Ballymun Shopping Centre. Buses serving Axis include: 4, 13, 17A, 46X, 103, 104 & 220. 6 The bus stop for northbound routes from the city centre is located outside the Ballymun Shopping Centre, just after Supervalu on the left side of Ballymun’s main street. On exiting the bus cross the road at the lights. 7 Bord Gáis Energy Theatre The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, designed by acclaimed architect Daniel Libeskind, opened in 2010 it is situated in the heart of Dublin’s Grand Canal Dock area, at Grand Canal Square. Facilities There are no restaurant facilities on site at the theatre, however there are kiosks where you can buy tea, coffee and confectionary and a fully licensed bar on every floor. The bars open one hour before the show. There are also plenty of restaurants surrounding the theatre at Grand Canal Dock that offer pre theatre menu options. Accessibility Bord Gaís Energy Theatre has a phone line especially for Access enquiries and assistance. Call 01 677 7770 Monday- Friday, 10am- 6pm. There is wheelchair access to all floors in the theatre. To avail of Personal Loop systems please ask a member of staff or request one form Box Office on the night of the show. An induction Loop system and Infra-Red hearing system is available throughout the auditorium. Parking Grand Canal Square car park, managed by Q-Park is open. Customers are advised to pre-book their parking spaces and you can reserve a parking space, as well as wheelchair spaces, at Q-park.ie. There is also a €10 rate (6pm – Midnight) at the Convention Centre’s car park which is only a ten minute walk from the theatre. More information can be found at ccdparking.ie. 8 Getting There Routes 1, 2, 3, 47, 50, 56a, 77 and 77a all operate to either Pearse Street or Grand Canal Dock, the closest stops to the venue. The last bus departs at 23.30 hrs, Monday through Sunday. The closest DART stations are Grand Canal Dock and Pearse Street Station (both approx 10 mins walk from the theatre). The closest Luas stop is Mayor Square on the Red Line. Taxis are available outside the theatre post performance. 9 Civic Theatre Tallaght The Civic Theatre, Tallaght, mounts an artistic and challenging programme each year of contemporary and classical Irish and international work in Theatre, Dance, Opera and Music for the community of South County Dublin. Facilities The Interval Bistro serves quality fresh breakfast, lunch and dinner from 9am – 7.30pm daily. A full bar service is available at the Interval Bistro before a show and during the interval. Patrons can preorder their drinks before the performance. A pre-theatre menu is available before every performance at €15 for 2 courses. Accessibility The Civic Theatre has a Loop for those who are hard of hearing. The main auditorium has the facility for wheelchair access, and has accessible toilet facilities. There is reserved parking and ramp access to the Theatre for disabled people attending evening and Saturday matinee performances. Parking The Civic Theatre car park is open only for patrons after 4.30pm daily. There is no charge for these facilities. Should you need parking before 4.30pm, patrons can park in the Square Shopping Centre. 10 Getting There Take the N81 (Tallaght exit off the M50) drive as far as the Plaza complex. At this complex take a right hand turn, continue up to the first set of lights. At these lights take a left hand turn, continue straight through another set of lights and the Civic Theatre is located at the end of the road on the right hand side. The red line of the Luas terminates at the Civic Theatre, while the 54a, 49, 50, 56a, 65, 27, 77a bus routes from the City Centre will take you to the theatre. 11 Draíocht Since opening in 2001 Draiocht has reached right to the heart of the people it serves in Dublin 15 and its environs to provide stimulating and accessible arts programming. Over 50,000 people a year attend performances, exhibitions and family days. Facilities Betelnut Café at Draíocht is open for breakfast, lunch and snacks from 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday. Betelnut Café stays open until 7.30pm on performance nights for pre-theatre refreshments. Draíocht’s Theatre Bar is open for pre-show drinks from 7.30pm and interval drinks may be preordered at the theatre bar before performances. Accessibility Draíocht is fully wheelchair accessible, including lift access, theatre spaces and toilet facilities. Hearing loops are available, and guide and hearing dogs are welcome in theatre spaces. Parking There are over 7000 free parking spaces available for customer use as part of the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre complex. The car parks nearest to Draíocht are to the right hand side of the Blanchardstown Library and to the left hand side of TGI Fridays and Leisureplex. The Blanchardstown Centre has a number of disabled parking spaces in all its various car parks, ten of which are located directly outside Draíocht’s front door. 12 Getting There Draíocht is located in West Dublin in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, and is part of the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre complex. We are located opposite the blue entrance of the Shopping Centre, in between the Blanchardstown Library and Leisureplex. The Shopping Centre is located on the Navan Road/N3, just 1.5km from the M50 Junction 6. Bus routes servicing the city centre include no. 39, 39a, 76a, 236, 238 and 270. 13 The Gate Theatre Established as a theatre company in 1928 by Hilton Edwards and Micheál MacLiammóir, the Gate offered Dublin audiences an introduction to the world of European and American theatre and also to classics from the modern and Irish repertoire. Today the Gate is one of Ireland's oldest and best-loved theatres. Facilities The Gate Theatre provides a full bar. The bar opens at 6.45pm, during the interval, and after the performance. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance offering pre theatre menus to suit all budgets. Accessibility Lift access to the auditorium for patrons with mobility issues or who use a wheelchair, can be arranged by calling the box office on 01 874 40 45. The auditorium has an Induction Loop system in place for the use of the hearing impaired. The Loop is installed in Rows D to J. Parking There is a car park situated beside the Gate Theatre and the Rotunda Hospital, just off Parnell St. The car park is open from 5.30pm 11.00pm each night. Use of the car parking facilities costs €6.00. If you are traveling by train, the nearest stations are Tara Street and Connolly Stations, and if you are traveling by Luas you should take the Red Line Luas to Abbey Street. 14 15 The Olympia Theatre The Olympia Theatre is a concert hall and theatre venue situated opposite Dublin Castle in the heart of Dublin city. The theatre was designed for Dan Lowrey who opened his new theatre, known as The Star of Erin, on the site of the present Olympia Theatre in 1878. Facilities There are four bars within the Olympia theatre which will be open pre & post performance. Accessibility The ground floor Stalls of the Olympia are fully accessible. Wheelchair uses are recommended to contact the Olympia who will arrange for a Customer Service Representative to bring the audience member through the accessible door and to their seat on the night of the performance. Please call the dedicated special needs booking line on 01 6704322. There is unfortunately no lift in the building so wheelchair users or those with impaired mobility should not book Circle or Upper Circle. Parking Parking is available in the following car parks: Christchurch Car Park - opening hours are Monday to Saturday 07:00 - midnight, Sunday & Bank Holidays 10:00 to Midnight. Trinity Street Car Park - opening hours are Monday to Saturday 8:00-24:00, Sunday 11:00-24:00. Park Rite Fleet Street Car Park - opening hours are 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Drury Street Underground Car Park - opening hours are Monday to Thursday 7am to 12am, Friday 7am to 1am, Saturday 8am to 1am, Sunday 10.30am to 7pm. 16 Getting There The address of The Olympia Theatre is 72 Dame Street, Dublin 2, on the edge of Temple Bar. Most buses that stop in the city centre will leave you within a few minutes’ walk of The Olympia. Buses that stop on Dame St include: 16, 46a, 67, 68, 79, 123, 116, 150, 151. Check www.dublinbus.ie for more details. The closest Luas stop to The Olympia Theatre is either Stephen’s Green on the Green line or Jervis Street on the Red line. For more information go to www.luas.ie. The nearest Dart/Commuter train station to The Olympia would be Tara Street Station. Inter-City trains arrive to Heuston Station & Connolly Station, which would be a bus/tram/taxi drive away from the theatre. For more information, see www.irishrail.ie. 17 Oonagh Young Gallery Oonagh Young Gallery is a space for art, artists, curators, writers, and all those interested in the world of contemporary art. Founded in 2008, the gallery shows between four and six exhibitions a year, featuring both Irish and international artists. Facilities The Oonagh Young gallery is next door to The Lab and Dancehouse. In the immediate vicinity are grocery shops and newsagents. A short walk away there are restaurants and cafes. Accessibility Though Oonagh Young Gallery itself is accessible for wheelchair users, Vardo is not suitable for audience members with impaired mobility or special access requirements. Parking The Irish Life Car Park on Lower Abbey Street. More information at parkrite.ie. Q Park, located just off Lower Abbey Street at Marlborough Street. Getting There Oonagh Young Gallery is situated at 1, James Joyce Street, Liberty Corner, Dublin 1. This street is a turn off Talbot Street, near Foley Street. The Luas red line stops five minutes’ walk from the gallery, get off at the Busáras stop. If you are coming by Dart get off at the Connolly stop, the gallery is a five minute walk away. Many Dublin buses to the city centre stop on O’Connell Street. O’Connell Street is just a ten minute walk from the Oonagh Young Gallery. 18 19 The OReilly Theatre The OReilly Theatre is located on the campus of Belvedere College in Dublin. It was built in 1999.This beautiful theatre nestles behind the Belvedere College reception and opens out into a historical courtyard. The theatre hosts a wide variety of events including corporate seminars, poetic readings, comedy nights, elaborate dance & theatrical productions and music concerts. Facilities The bar in the theatre opens one hour before the performance. There are many restaurants and cafés within walking distance of the theatre, and many offer a pre-theatre menu. These include: Chapter One, The Gresham, and 101 Talbot Restaurant. Accessibility All entrances to the theatre are wheelchair accessible. Please feel free to let them know in advance that you might require assistance accessing the venue and they will arrange to facilitate your requirements. Parking There is a car-park at the venue (Temple Street) with two levels of underground parking with parking spaces available at €5 per car per day. Alternative parking can be found on Marlborough Street in Clery’s Car park and at Parnell Street Car park. Getting There The OReilly Theatre is located on Great Denmark Street, 5 minute walk from O’Connell Street and is well served by public transport. The closest Luas stop is on Abbey Street/Red Line. From here walk north (away from the Liffey) up Marlborough Street, cross Parnell Street and continue up North Great George’s Street where you will meet Great Denmark Street and the OReilly Theatre will be directly in front of you. 20 Alternatively any bus that stops on O’Connell Street. The theatre is just a ten minute walk away. The nearest Dart station is Connolly station. 21 Pavilion Theatre Pavilion Theatre is a vibrant venue located in the picturesque seaside town of Dún Laoghaire. Pavilion Theatre offer an artistic programme of Irish and international Theatre, Music, Cinema, Dance, Comedy, Family Events and much more. Facilities The bar at Pavilion Theatre is open for pre-theatre drinks for evening performances and for select matinee performances, stocking several Irish brands including O Hara’s Irish Pale Ale and Stout, DP Connolly & Sons refreshing pink lemonade and delicious crisps, a selection of Broderick's Bars, Cookies of Character delicious cookies. Accessibility The auditorium can provide accessibility for a maximum of three wheelchairs, please contact the Box Office on 01 231 2929 for bookings. There is ramp access to the theatre on Marine Road. There is also a hearing loop available, when choosing seats online please note that the Loop system works best in rows N, R and S. Parking Street parking is Pay & Display, and is free from 7pm. Please note times for street parking may vary along the sea front. Car parking is also available in the Park Rite car park, situated under the Pavilion Theatre and accessed via Queen’s Road. If you park here after 6pm, patrons are offered a flat rate of €3 upon presentation of your theatre ticket for that evening’s performance. 22 Getting There From the city centre you can either take the N11 via Stillorgan, turn off at the Ballybrack exit and follow signs for Dun Laoghaire, or you can drive the Coast Road via Blackrock on the R118 following signs for Dun Laoghaire. The DART runs every five minutes during rush hour periods and twenty minutes during the day via Connolly Station in the city centre. The theatre is located opposite Dun Laoghaire DART station. Bus routes serving the theatre include 7, 7a, 8, 45a, 46a, 59, 75, 111. 23 Project Arts Centre Dublin’s best kept secret…. a venue packed full of surprises, tucked away in the historic cobbled streets of Temple Bar. Choose from theatre, music, dance, visual arts and everything in between. With two theatres and a gallery Project Arts Centre offers a huge variety of events at great value and is located close to a host of great restaurants and bars. The gallery presents a series of free exhibitions which run throughout the year. Facilities Project Arts Centre provides a bar that is open from 45 minutes before the start of evening performances and stocks a large range of craft beers, spirits, wines and soft drinks. Accessibility Project Arts Centre is completely accessible for wheel chair users. Both performance spaces are also fitted with the Loop system to assist those with hearing impairment. Please let the box office staff know if you would like to use the Loop system. Parking A special €5 parking rate is available from Fleet Street car park, simply present your show ticket when paying. Getting There Project Arts Centre is a large blue building situated behind the Olympia Theatre and opposite the Clarence Hotel on East Essex Street in Temple Bar. Take any bus that runs to Dame Street and either enter Temple Bar via Parliament Street and take a right onto East Essex Street or enter Temple Bar via Eustace Street or Sycamore Street and take a left onto East Essex Street. If travelling by Luas take the Red Luas Line to Jervis stop. Cross the River Liffey into Temple Bar using the Millennium Bridge. Take a right onto East Essex Street and Project Arts Centre is on the left hand side of the street. 24 25 Samuel Beckett Theatre The Samuel Beckett Theatre was opened in 1992 to celebrate the quatercentenary of Trinity College Dublin. It is the campus theatre of the University's Department of Drama. During University term time it showcases the work of the Department and its courses, while outside term time it hosts visits from some of the most prestigious dance and theatre companies from Ireland and abroad. Facilities The Samuel Beckett Theatre has a coffee dock which sells wine, hot drinks and snacks from one hour before the show. Parking There is no parking for theatre patrons on the campus of Trinity College; however the nearest car parks are Setanta (Nassau St), Andrew's Lane (off Dame St) and Temple Bar (Fleet St) car parks. Accessibility The auditorium of Samuel Beckett Theatre is accessible for wheelchair-users, but patrons are requested to give advance notice of wheelchair use (01 – 896 2461, [email protected]) to ensure that adequate space is reserved. 26 Getting There The Samuel Beckett Theatre is situated towards the centre of the Trinity College campus. When entering TCD via the College Green Arch, continue walking eastwards, keeping to the left (north/Pearse Street) side of Front Square and New Square. The Theatre is past the northeast corner of New Square, facing the Rugby Grounds. Trinity College is within 10 minutes’ walk of all city centre termini, including bus, DART (Pearse Station via Lincoln Place entrance or Tara St Station via College Green entrance), Luas (Green Line St Stephen's Green, Red Line - Abbey St). It is a ten minute walk from the campus gates to the Samuel Beckett Theatre, please take this into consideration when planning your travel. On Saturday and Sunday the Main Gate (Front Arch) closes at 6pm. Please enter through the Nassau Street, or Lincoln Place entrances. 27 Smock Alley Theatre Smock Alley Theatre, located in Temple Bar's Cultural Quarter, is Dublin's oldest newest theatre - first opened in 1662. While it was in operation as a theatre, it gave the world the plays of George Farquhar, Oliver Goldsmith, and Richard Brinsley Sheridan, and the brilliant performances of Peg Woffington, Thomas Sheridan, Spranger Barry, and Charles Macklin. It was on this stage that David Garrick, the greatest actor of the 18th century, first played Hamlet. Today, Smock Alley has a varied artistic programme of Theatre, Music, Dance, Comedy, Visual Arts and Literary Events. Facilities The theatre prides itself on the selection of craft beers and spirits, organic teas and coffee and an excellent selection of wines- all hand sourced from vineyards. The Bar opens one hour before the performance, and includes an interval order facility. Cones of confectionery are also available. There are a number of quality restaurants nearby. Accessibility Both the main space and Boys School auditoria have wheelchair access for patrons, please advise the Box Office staff when booking your tickets. Parking The nearest car parks are Fleet Street Car Park and Christchurch Car Park. Patrons can also pre book their parking online. 28 Getting There Smock Alley Theatre is situated on Exchange Street Lower with its façade facing on to Wood Quay. Smock Alley Theatre is only a 10 minute walk from Tara Street DART station and 5 minutes from the Jervis Street stop on the red LUAS line. It is a 10 minute walk from O’Connell Street. As it is situated in the city centre, Smock Alley Theatre is serviced by most bus routes.
