Biome and Ecology Project
Biome Name:__________________________
STUDENTS MAY CHOOSE OPTION 1 OR OPTION 2
OPTION 1 Biome and Ecology Foldable Project
Goals: Students research a biome and develop Foldable
Step 1 – Select a group (maximum number will be announced by teacher)
Step 2 – Select a biome (this will be a random process)
Step 3 – Research your biome (library / internet resources)
See the required elements for a specific list.
OR
OPTION 2 Biome and Ecology Children’s Book Project (INDIVIDUAL)
Southern California’s Chaparral Biome, Tropical Rain Forest Biome, Tropical Savanna
Biome, Desert Biome, Temperate Grassland Biome, Taiga Biome, Coniferous Forest
Biome
ALL WORK MUST BE COLORED
1) Biome Name (Foldable Only) or table of contents (books ONLY)
2) INTRODUCTION TO BIOME---A written description (paragraph) must be done on
the biome that includes the biotic and abiotic features this serves as an introduction about
your biome. Explain what type of soil is found here.
Make sure to include the following:
City, State or Country
Tell about these components:
1) Abiotic factors
2) Dominant plants
3) Dominant wildlife
3) “THE BIG PICTURE”--§Draw or make a picture or collage of your biome
§Keystone Species found in your biome and their significance
§Common plants (at least 5) and animals (at least 5) found in the biome. shown with
labels
§Geographic Distribution--A map showing where your biome is located
§MUST BE COLORED
4) Climatogram for your biome
Research the average monthly precipitation and temperature for that biome for one year.
Make a chart to show temperature and precipitation. Plot the information in the form of a
climatogram (temperature with line graphs and precipitation with bar graph)
•Human Interaction with your biome and impact on your biome
5) Food web and data
Draw/create a food web showing 10 organisms from your biome.
Label organism name and role in ecosystem –Ex. Producer, primary consumer, etc.
Also include 3 food chains.
–Grass----snail----crane
–Grass---grasshopper---mouse----hawk
–Grass---Deer---Mtn. Lion
6) Examples of relationships with picture
Give an example of each from your biome
–Predation
–Mutualism
–Parasitism
–Competition
–Commensalism
Provide a picture of each
7) Biomass Pyramid or Pyramid of Numbers or an Energy pyramid should be drawn
using the names of organisms found in the biome.
8) Give an example of how humans have specifically influenced this environment. What
impact will this have on humans in the future?
9) Eco-tourism is becoming increasingly popular in today’s society. If you were in
charge of people touring this region, what five (5) things would you want people to learn
and remember about this biome?
10) Images: you must find five (5) images that represent this biome
11) Resource List: MUST USE 2 BOOKS for internet include website address-Bibliography of books, internet sites, etc… Please cite your sources.
ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE ON THE ASSIGNED DAY REGARDLESS OF
ABSENCES WHICH MAY OCCUR BEFORE DURING OR AFTER THIS
PROJECT IS ASSIGNED
