Zeus • • • • Greek name: Zeus Roman name: Jupiter, Jove Parents: Kronos and Rhea Sphere of influence: he had dominant power over all other deities, and he was worshiped over all Greece and Rome • Attributes: a lightning bolt, a royal sceptre and eagle • Birthplace: Diktaion cave where he was cared for by Amaltheia Zeus Pictures Pre 476 A.D. I chose this picture of Zeus because it shows his power. Zeus is the alpha-god, he controls everything. In this picture he is holding a bird in one hand and a lighting bolt in the other. I think that the bird symbolizes peace and the lighting bolt (which is one of his attributes) symbolizes war. This shows his never ending power because he is controlling the balance of the Earth. Zeus Pictures “Modern art” Post-1400 A.D. I chose this picture to show Zeus in modern art because I think it is a perfect representation of his power and strength. He is holding his head up high and you can see by his posture and facial expression that he is the “top dog”, the almighty god. Once again he has the lightning bolt in his hand which shows his power to even greater extent. When I first saw this picture my initial reaction was taken back by the vigor he portrays. Also the fact that he is almost pushing the lightning bolt forward towards you really gives me the feeling that he is the champion, and the greatest of all the gods. When you look at pictures of the other deities none of them even come close to the intensity Zeus has.
