Our Process for Transitioning Military Candidates
The Lucas Process has three distinct phases:
(1) Data Collection: Getting your file today – or as soon as possible. This includes sending me a copy of your:




Application Form: (see important documents - application) this is the most important document
initially and provides me a base level of knowledge on your background and provides me with a profile I
can save in our database.
Evaluation Reports – Copies of 3 OER’s, OPR’s, FITREPS – etc. (if don’t have that many, as many as
you do have). We need these to validate your credentials for the employers that solicit us to find you.
Transcripts - A copy (not originals) of your college transcripts (if you have one). Same as above –
validation of credentials.
Resume (see important documents – sample resumes) A working copy of your resume in word
document and chronological format. ( See examples for your branch of service )
The Application form is the most important and the only required document initially. Once your file is complete
we will do a marketability assessment over the phone or at a post visit to get you squared away and get the
ball rolling.
(2) Professional Development and our Training Program: This will include Interview Training and Resume
Development. This will be done at post visits, electronically via email, or by phone call.

Self-Directed Preparation: this will include professional reading and interview preparation. Start by
reading the Transitional Training Packet and Interviewing 101 cover to cover. Find the recommended
reading list (see important documents – reading list) and get a couple of books that relate to fields that
you might be interested in and read them. Do your reading first and then transition to writing out the
answers to the questions in the 101 file. ( see important documents – TTP and 101 )

Transitional Training Package: Solid overview of our process, the types of positions we
represent, and answers to questions about business attire etc.
Interviewing 101: Self-Assessment document and Interview training information.
Recruiter-Directed Preparation: This will include mock interviews and resume scrubs with your
candidate recruiter. This will start 3-6 months prior to separation depending on your planned attendance
at a Lucas Group conference.
(3) Transition: Conference Attendance, Individual Interviews (See Off-Conference), and Negotiation up to and
including offers. This will start 90 days before you can start work at the request of our clients.



Conference Attendance: This is where you get your biggest bang for your buck. Our conferences will
provide you the chance to get in front of world class companies from all over the country in the
geographical region of the country you are most interested in for the most part. We schedule 30-40
conference a year in Dallas ( Southwest Region ), Chicago ( Midwest Region ), Atlanta ( Southeast
Region ), DC ( Mid Atlantic and Northeast Region ), and Irvine / San Francisco ( West Coast ). ( See

Individual Interviews: These are primarily geared toward candidates that are severely restricted by
their location parameters. They are less efficient than conference interviews but certainly will get you in
front of great companies and are a service we provide to candidates that put location first among their
search parameters.
Negotiation: We will help you from the start of the interview process all the way up to negotiating and
accepting an offer.

have decided to work with you to chase down file / paperwork requirements. We don’t want to waste your time if
we can’t meet your needs.

Dan entered the recruiting industry in 2005 as a Military Candidate Recruiter in Dallas, TX. He has reached
Associate Partner Level with Lucas Group and is the Midwest Conference Coordinator. In that capacity he
works closely with candidates looking to attend the Lucas Group Military Hiring Conferences. In addition he
plans and coordinates 2-3 base visits each month – specifically those in the Midwest and Mid-south. He works
primarily with junior officer candidates or with former officers that have industry experience. Regardless of
where you want to live he can work with you and assist you in your transition – location preference doesn’t
matter.
Dan earned a BS in Health Science from the University of Florida in 1997 and served as a Battery Commander
with the 82d Airborne Division in both Afghanistan and Iraq.
