MCPS Theatre Guidelines Outstanding secondary school theatre arts programs can advance the culture, aesthetic awareness, and appreciation of the school and the community. These theatre guidelines are provided in response to questions regarding the evaluation and selection of plays. Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) guidelines state that it is the responsibility of each school’s theatre director to choose scripts of literary value, theatrical merit, and aesthetic quality. An administrator should not have to read and approve a play for production but should have confidence in the ability of the theatre director to select a play which will be of value to the theatre program and to the school community. If there are questions about the selected script, the theatre director should seek the advice of the school administrator as he or she has the ultimate responsibility for the public relations images created by the theatre department. The MCPS Guidelines for Selection of Dramatic Productions can be found at the following link, http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/finearts/staff/theatre.aspx/ For questions, please contact Ms. Linda S. Adams, supervisor, Fine Arts, at 301-279-3250 or via e-mail.
