Update on Advocacy
• The Statistics Law was approved in 30 June 2010 and
officially implemented
• Strategy for Development of National Statistics
System in 2010 to 2020 (SDNSS)
• The Lao Statistics Bureau (LSB) was established
laterly of 2010
• The LSB's status is equivalent sub-ministry, under the
Ministry of Planning and Investment

 The core set of economic indicators
were included in SDNSS, and identify
clearly in different sectors
 The specific plan to produce
indicators were added in line ministries,
depend on each responsibility. Ex: BOL,
MOF and etc

CPI: Improve quality assurance by:

compile in 5 year plan and report quarterly.

Need TA support on
1. Upgrade GDP compilation to SNA 2008, and
quarterly compilation
2. Compile GDP by Expenditure, Integrated
national account, Institutional sector
account and GNI
Supported activities:
Need TA support on monitor and revise the
methodology of annual household survey,
Enterprise survey in order to support
National Account.
The cooperation project in LSB
• Interested in participating in RPES as
both a provider and a recipient of
technical assistance
• Partnered with World Bank, IMF, ADB,
UNFPA, UNICEF, UNSD, UNSIAP, ASEAN,
ASEAN COMPASS, KOIKA and etc.

SDG monitoring
• It has been raised and discussed among
government agencies and international
organization. Ex: Green growth was
introduced
• But there is not yet identify and divide
who will take responsibility on which
indicators.
Conclusion
• To apply the decision and adaptation of each
statistics areas we would require to close
working together UN line, ASEAN Statistics
and each NSOs member states;
• NSOs among UN line and ASEAN member
should harmonize and study carefully to
priority what areas would reflect to our
region in the short period, medium and long
term;
• The coordination and cooperation between
ASEANSTATs and others region and global is
very importance.
