Using Visible Body: Muscle Premium App as an Atlas
Open the App: Visible Body MUSCLE Premium.
Part I: Using the Atlas for Regional Muscle Identification
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Select Anatomy from the Home menu.
Select the region you are studying from on the pulldown tab at the top center (SELECT REGION) (i.e. Head).
Select the region view icon you are studying. (i.e. Head region).
You can rotate, zoom, and drag the model by moving your fingers on the tablet screen.
Touch any muscle on the model. This will highlight the muscle in blue and bring up a menu in the upper left
corner. It will also display at the top of the screen the name of the muscle.
6. If you select SHOW PINS from the menu in the upper left corner, it will place pins for the origins (RED) and
insertions (BLUE). You can then select DEFINE to learn more about the muscle, origins, insertions, innervations,
actions, and blood supply for that muscle. You can remove the pins by selecting CLEAR PINS.
7. Select REFRESH VIEW. This will return you back to the original icon view. You can now repeat Steps 1-7 for
other muscles in that same region or return to the HOME menu to use a different feature.
Part II: Using the Atlas Index for Muscle Identification
1. Select A-Z Index from the Home menu.
2. Using the alphabet on the right, to select the first letter of the muscle you are searching for (i.e. O for
occipitofrontalis). This will bring up an alphabetical listing of muscles beginning with that letter (i.e. O for
occipitofrontalis). Select the icon corresponding to the view for your muscle. Once you select the muscle in
context, this will show you the positioning of the muscle on the skeleton by displaying only the muscle you
selected. It will also display at the top of the screen the name of the muscle. NOTE: If there are muscle
animations associated with the muscle, these icons will be the next icons in the index.
3. Select the muscle. This will highlight the muscle in blue. On the left corner a menu will appear allowing you to
select DEFINE to learn more about the muscle, origins, insertions, innervations, actions, and blood supply for
that muscle. You can show pins by selecting SHOW PINS to identify the origins and insertions. You can remove
the pins by selecting CLEAR PINS.
4. Select REFRESH VIEW. This will return you back to the original icon view. You can now repeat Steps 1-4 for
other muscles in the index or return to the HOME menu to use a different feature.
Other features of the Muscle Premier App:
HIDE: Enables the muscle to be temporarily removed from the context of the skeleton.
FADE: Enables the muscle to be temporarily faded, but still in context of the skeleton.
SHOW: Enables the muscles that were previously hidden or faded to be returned to the context of the skeleton.
MULTIPLE SELECT: Allows the user to select multiple muscles. This feature when used with the hide or fade functions,
can allow users to visualize only specific muscles.
DEFINITION: From the menu at the bottom, allows users to read more about the muscle.
DRAW: From the menu at the bottom, allows users to draw/write with their finger on the image.
SHARE: From the menu at the bottom, allows users to send their drawing/image to email or photos on the app. NOTE:
The ipad must be able to access the internet for this feature.
SEARCH: From the menu at the bottom, allows users to Search for a muscle by name or keyword.
HOME: From the menu at the bottom, allows users to return to the main menu.
Now you are ready to use the Muscle Premium App as an atlas to help you identify muscles on the skeleton!
Activity 1:
Using your list of muscles, find the muscle you are studying either using the regional views or by using the A-Z index.
Once you have identified the muscle using the Ipad app, try to find the muscle on the models in the classroom.
Activity 2:
Use the quiz feature from the home menu to assess your identification of muscles in context on the models. For those
questions you incorrectly answer on the quiz, go back to the regional view or A-Z index to reexamine the muscle in
context with the models.
