LANsense Nexans Cabling Solutions 1 Agenda Changes in LAN usage & management implications Business issues How LANsense can help 2 Traditional model… Remote Access GSM CCTV Storage IT Facilities Fax Wireless Phones Switches Access Terminals Environmental Control 3 …and now The IP World more devices – more applications IT / Facilities more complexity 4 Business Issues Business issues: Compliance and Control in an increasingly complex environment Ease of Deployment of new services Asset Management and Utilisation Business Goals: Reduced operational costs through business process improvement 5 Compliance and Control “The ability to control change is without doubt, the major contributor to business value” BCS Managing change manually is more challenging: More complex – multiple services More sensitive to change Increased documentation overhead More sensitive to incorrect interconnection 6 ISO 14763-2 Documentation requirements Installation Fixed cable elements 2 to 200 201 to >20000 20,000 (for Cx divide by 4) Office 2 2 3 Industrial 3 3 3 Home 1 1 1 Multi-tenant residential 2 2 3 Data Centre 2 2 3 Level 3 requires electronic records of fixed cables 8 ISO 14763-2 Documentation requirements Operation Administered Ports 2 to 100 101 to 5000 >5001 Office 1 2 3 Industrial 1 2 3 Home 1 1 1 Multi-tenant residential 1 2 3 Data Centre 2 3 3 Level 3 requires electronic records of fixed and moveable cables Enhanced level requires electronic records of fixed cables and AUTOMATED cord management 9 Ease of deployment of new services The challenge is one of “coordination delays” Systems, Operations, & Facilities teams involved Often uncoordinated Typical new deployment time maybe 90-180 days LANsense can significantly reduce these delays Assistance with planning and workflow Automated provisioning of some services 10 Asset Management and Utilisation What have I got? Where is it? Is it being used efficiently? Do I really need to upgrade? Increasing need for accurate, automated records. Self documenting in real time 11 LANsense How can it help? 12 LANsense Nexans IIM Solution LANsense provides visibility of a physical network by automatically detecting, locating and alerting on any network 'event‘ Works alongside existing network management tools Extends IT operational efficiency to the physical layer interoperates with other physical & environmental management systems to create an Intelligent Event Manager 13 What physically is LANsense? 1. LANsense panels or detection strips 2. Software 3. Analyser 4. I/O Cords 5. LANsense patchcords 14 LANsense Software screen-shot LANsense displays CAD graphics of devices, connectivity and physical locations 15 LANsense Product Suites LANsense Enterprise Edition Migration path for companies managing complex IT infrastructures and planning integration with other management systems LANsense Data Centre Edition Additional products and tools designed to meet the operational needs of data centre managers 16 LANsense Proven track record Tried & tested - over a million installed ports Actual customer benefits delivered: 400% increase in managed change volumes with 75% reduction in man hours. 10%+ improvement in asset and port utilisation. Significant improvements in SLA performance, e.g 1hr+ reduction in resolution times. Identification 300 unknown devices/assets Providing the input for an accurate records database Heightened security - swift recognition of a rogue server Integration and control of other IP devices for smart buildings and efficiently managed data centres 17 Meeting business goals Where to invest? 30% Assets & Innovation 70% Maintenance “keeping the lights on” Source: Gartner - IT Infrastructure, And The Shift To “Real-Time” Source: : IDC Virtualization 2.0 The next phase in customer adoption. Courtesy of IBM Maintenance costs increasing …. …LANsense ROI time progressively decreasing 18 LANsense IIM Hardware To enable the software to detect patches a number of different items are required. The basic cable, connectors and outlets stay the same but there is a need for different panels in the Cross Connect. Patch cords are also different and then you need analysers to do the detection. Snap-in Fixed I/0 Cords 19 LANsense IIM Hardware The Analyser sends, through the i/o cords, 5v dc to the gold pad on the patch panel. The Analysers are scalable from as few as 48 ports to more or less unlimited in a single patch zone The new NGA solution has the ability to separate the display from the voltage generating i/o cards so critical rack space can be saved in the patching zone NGA 1U HMI (Human Management Interface) 256 port 1U Gnome Analyser NGA 3U 48 – 912 ports 20 LANsense IIM Patch cords The “9th” wire connects two of the “gold pads” together creating a circuit that the analyser detects, the analyser then reports this to the software Additional “9th” Wire 21 LANsense IIM other Hardware The LANsense option extends across the entire LANmark range including fibre. It is also possible to provide retro fit strips that directly attach to switches, eliminating the need for “Service Presentation” links. These strips can also be made to fit “Other” panels. 22 LANsense EMAC Hardware Rack Manager Humidity Sensor Door Sensor Horizontal & Vertical PDU’s Monitor and port level remote control Temperature Sensor 23 Summary Networks becoming more complex More need to control More difficult to manage Maintenance costs increasing LANsense Helps manage change Simplifies new service deployment Improves asset management and utilisation delivers reduced operational cost 24 LANsense Take Control of Your Network Nexans Cabling Solutions 25
