SLE Patient-Partner Experience Insights, Thoughts, Opinions and Reflection CHAVEZ, JUSTIN B. A6 – DRA. NAVARRA SLE Patient Partner Experience • I realized that SLE is a disease that is so much underrated. • SLE is an illness that entails lifelong devotion and strict compliance to medications and treatment. • It causes much grief for the afflicted patients physically, since it hinders or impairs functions of almost every system of the body, and emotionally, because it causes frustration over the harsh consequences of having the disease. • It consumes valuable time and of course, a lot of money. • I realized that in order to go through about and surviving despite of the sickness, the patient must have supportive family, friends and loved ones. • I also realized that faith in God will most likely, if not always, will result to a better prognosis for these kinds of patients; not only SLE patients but also those having other terminal diseases • Also, I come to think that physicians are really “hands of God”, because it is doctors who execute the healing process that the great one above plans for these patients • It follows that doctors must be competent and caring to their patients so as not to cause more harm than cure • Humility is also a value that must be learned by doctors because they are mere instruments of God Summary • The activity that we had last Saturday was great and also exciting • The patients presented in remission. Because of this, I now truly believe that the disease is not only treatable, but in the future, may also be curable with the advent of biogenic medications. • competent physicians, like Thomasian doctors, will not only treat these patients but also affect their lives in such a good way that they will have the strength to go through anything they may run into. • These are the exact virtues developed to us medical students, so as to impart love and care, and excellent medical service to our future patients.
