The individual interested in being a park ranger should study botany, zoology, geology and ecology in college. Other helpful studies are park management, forestry, and the social sciences To uphold a Park Ranger job you have to be at least 18 years of age Physical and Personal Requirements Personal traits for park rangers are enjoying outdoors and enjoy helping people in trouble. Rangers should also be creative, responsible, respectful, and energetic. Physical traits of a park ranger include physical strength, good health, and good eyesight. Job outlook The employment outlook is poor for a job as a park ranger. The number of park ranger jobs is said to decrease in 2014. It is said that many parks are going to raise its need for volunteers and lessen its need for employed rangers. Since they are raising the prices for equipment and pay they have to cut a lot of park rangers this year (2013) Average Salary The median salary for park rangers is $30,000 Experienced rangers usually earn $47,000 to $50,000 per year. Rangers at state parks usually earn less then rangers at national parks. Rangers get paid vacations and holidays, health insurance, and other benefits given to state employees.
