The Organelles of the Plant Cell Warm Up
 Watch the video on the organelles or parts of the
plant cell.
 Then, write down 5 new things you learned about the
parts of the cell from watching this video.
 Make sure your heading and title is on your paper. If
not, no grade will be given for your assignment.
The Organelles of Plants Definitions
 1. Chromatin: combination of DNA and proteins that
make up the nucleus of a plant cell because this
organelle regulates the plant.
 2. Chloroplast: organelle that conducts photosynthesis
and captures the light energy for this synthesis chemical
reaction.
 3. Mitochondrion: major producers of ATP because this
molecule is the energy that plants get from the glucose
they make
 4. Cell Wall: is similar to the skeletal system that the
members of the animal kingdom have because this
organelle provides shape, structure, and support for the
plant
 5. Plasma Membrane: is also called the cell membrane
because this organelle is selectively permeable by only
letting certain things permeate or move in and out of the
plant cell.
 6. Vacuole: is the largest organelle in the plant cell
because this is important for storing water and other
materials necessary for the plant to survive.
Plant and Animal Cell Comparison
 Although plant and animal cells are both considered to
be cells, both of them have properties that they don’t
share.
 Plant cells have the cell wall, chloroplast, and vacuole
organelles that animal cells don’t have because they
don’t need them to survive.
Creative Definitions for Plant Organelles
 Create 6 divisions on your paper
 In each box, write the name of the organelle, a shorter
version of the definition, and then a creative example or
illustration great for memorizing this organelle’s
definition.
