We can explain how our beliefs affect our actions. Jewish Traditions We will explore Bar Mitzvah & Circumcision. We will be able to explain Bar and Bat Mitzvah traditions. We can explain Jewish circumcision tradition. We can explain why traditions are important to all of us. Are all traditions good? We can express a view on this. The Torah We can identify the parts of a Torah scroll. We can explain how the Torah is used in a synagogue. We can explain the sort of guidance Jews get from the Torah. We can express views on the guidance we get in life and where we get it from The Synagogue We will explore Jewish use of the synagogue. We will be able to describe the main features of a synagogue and explain their importance. We will be able to explain the way Jews worship in a synagogue. We can express a view on whether we prefer Orthodox or Reform synagogue use. Shabbat We will explore Jewish beliefs and practices about Shabbat. We can explain why Jews celebrate Shabbat. We can explain the “rules” of Shabbat. We can express a view on the attractiveness of Shabbat. We can discuss different views on the origin of the cosmos. Passover We will explore the story and meaning of Passover. We will be able to tell the story of the “first” Passover. We will be able to describe a Passover meal and explain the meaning of the rituals. We can express a view on :– What really happened. – Whether God acted fairly or not. A Persecuted People We will explore the way Jews have suffered persecution throughout history. We can explain key words:prejudice, discrimination. We can talk about our experiences of prejudice and discrimination. We can give examples of Jewish persecution. We can discuss how Jews may react to persecution. Israel We will explore the importance of Israel for the Jewish people. We can explain the importance of these places for Jews:– – – – Yad Vashem Mea Shearim Masada Western Wall. We can discuss Jewish and Palestinian relationships today.
