NAME*! NEPTUNE The name Neptune come from a mythological god like many other planets. It’s named for the roman god of the sea. And it was discovered by Johann Gotfried Galle on September 23, 1846 POSITION IN THE solar system*! Neptune is the earth’s eighth planet from the sun in our solar system Rotation on it’s axis*! it takes neptune16.11hours to rotate on it’s own axis which is one day on Neptune Size*! th 4 Neptune is the largest planet by diameter and the 3rd largest planet by mass…. mass- 1.024e+26 (kg) Gravity*! The gravity on Neptune is 1.19km times the gravity on earth and a person that weighs 100 pounds would weigh 119…. WOAHHHH! :] ORBIT It takes Neptune 60,190 to orbit which is 165 earth days. It completes an orbit every 164.79 years Atmosphere*! Neptune's atmosphere mainly consists of molecular hydrogen, it has a very thick atmosphere Atmospheric composition Hydrogen 85% Helium 13% Methane 2% TEMPERATURE*! The temperature on Neptune is - 220 C Scientists believe that Neptune must have some internal source of heat and its atmosphere consists mostly of hydrogen and helium Rings The rings of Neptune were discovered in 1989. Neptune has 5 known rings that are each named after astronomer who did important work on the planet. Galle, Le Verrier, Lassell, Arago and Adams are the names of them Composition of Neptune Neptune is a gas giant and the internal composition of Neptune is made up of Helium and Methane Moons Neptune has 13 known moons. They are composed of rock and ice. The first four moons of Neptune, Naiad, Thalassa, Despina, and Galatea, are so close to Neptune that they orbit within its ring system How would a human being fare on Neptune?? The gravity of Neptune is alright compared to earth, The atmosphere is mainly hydrogen and helium meaning that there is no chance of living there and breathing normally The temperature is 55K, which is in and around -220 *C Neptune is the smallest of the gas giants With an equatorial radius of only 24,764 km, Neptune is smaller than the other gas giants in the solar system Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus. But here's the funny thing, Neptune is actually more massive than Uranus by about 18%. Since it's smaller but more massive, Neptune is much more dense than Uranus.
