By Tiffany T. Pham Mercury Mercury only takes 88 Earth days for it to make 1 orbit around the Sun. It’s temperatures can reach up to 800° F during the day. Mercury’s craters were caused when comets and asteroids struck the surface billions of years ago. Venus Venus was named for the roman goddess of love and beauty. It takes Venus 225 Earth days to make 1 year. Venus is surrounded by thick clouds that reflect the light. Earth Earth is the only planet that supports life. It is the 3rd planet from the sun. Earth is the only planet that has life. Mars Mars was named for the roman god of war. It’s atmosphere is only 1/100 as thick as Earth’s. Mars is only about half the size of Earth. Jupiter Jupiter is the 5th planet from the sun. Jupiter has 16 moons. Jupiter is 2x as large as the other 8 planets put together. Saturn Saturn is surrounded by clouds of raging storms and powerful winds reaching speeds over 1,000 mph. The temperature on Saturn may drop to 285°F. Saturn is the 6th planet from the sun. Uranus Uranus rotates in the opposite direction of the other 4 outer planets. Uranus is the 7th planet from the sun. Uranus lies on it’s side with the north pole facing the sun. Neptune Neptune is the 8th planet from the sun. Neptune has 4 or more rings which are very narrow and difficult to see. Neptune’s rings are made up of tiny dust particles revolving around it. Pluto Pluto is the 9th planet from the sun. Pluto is the smallest of all planets. Pluto is an icy ball smaller than Earth’s moon. Hope you enjoyed this educational program.
