Grace Fellowship Church Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard Tuesday, November 27, 2012 www.GraceDoctrine.org Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.— Amen. The Book of Proverbs Chapter 3 Prov 3:19-20 Creation vs. Evolution I. Introduction. Genesis 1 gives the account of God’s Creative Act. L.S. Chafer, “Evolution is a humanly devised theory which has no truly scientific basis or evidence upon which to rest, but is all the same believed by college and university professors and in general the intellectual class.” “The unregenerated being unable to believe the Genesis account of creation and not having any ability to believe that there is a God who created all things, they have devised the best theory that they can, but still with great inconsistency.” “No Spirit-taught person will have trouble with the Genesis account of creation.” II. The Theories of Evolution. 1. Naturalistic: By “natural selection” and the “survival of the fittest” the varied forms of living things came to be what they are as a result of fortuitous arrangement. 2. Theistic: God is the original cause, while embracing a supposed evolutionary process as the method by which He developed man from the original cell He had created. God states clearly throughout the Bible that His Being is the sole source of all things and the precise method He employed. Cf. Gen 1-2, with Mat 19:4; Rom 5:12-19; 1 Cor 15:45-49; 1 Tim 2:13 Those who embrace the Darwinist theory of evolution and animal ancestry dishonor both God and himself, having disregarded the truth of God’s Word treating it with antagonism. If man is the product of natural forces, then he has responsibility along moral lines as natural forces demand and no more. He then may look to tadpoles for his moral ideals, and truth is without foundation. As His creation we have a moral accountability to Him and His Word. As His creation we have a moral accountability to Him and His Word. 1 Peter 1:16, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” As His creation we have a moral accountability to Him and His Word. 1 Peter 1:16, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” Mat 5:48, “Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Rom 4:3, “Let God be true, but every man a liar.” Definition: Evolution is the change in the inherited characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. Life on Earth originated and then evolved from a universal common ancestor approximately 3.8 billion years ago. Charles Darwin was the first to formulate a scientific argument for the theory of evolution by means of natural selection. III. The Blending of Evolution and Creation. The Genesis record of the six days of creation has been reinterpreted in terms of the evolutionary ages of historical geology. It is critical that we interpret the Bible literally and then fit science into it, if at all possible. We should never try to fit the Bible into science. 1. Theistic Evolution: a. It contradicts the Bible record of creation. b. It is inconsistent with God’s methods. The standard concept of evolution involves the development of innumerable misfits and extinctions, useless and even harmful organisms. c. The evolutionary philosophy is the intellectual basis of all anti-theistic systems.
