Activities
 In rocky mountain national park there are many activities
you can enjoy such as going swimming in our many lakes
or rivers.
 You may also boat in the park with many people that are
there. Also you can go camping everywhere in the park it
has amazing scenery and there is also wild life that you can
observe. There is also vegatation in the park lots of
vegatation.
Where can you find water?
Water can be found throughout the beautiful, Rocky Mountain National Park.
Landforms can be found all over this national ,this park consists of 150 lakes and
over 476 miles of rivers and streams. Some lakes include Grand lake, Lake Granby,
Shadow Mountain lake, Monarch lake etc... Some rivers include Tonahutu river
etc.... If you’re a fisherman I recommend these rivers.
Grand lake is the largest natural lake in Colorado with a depth of 265 feet.
Thousands of years ago this lake was formed by a glacier slowly advancing then
retreating to become the landform Grand lake.
Erosion Now and in the Past
Not much erosion happens around the lakes because
there is a lot of granite. There is also a lot of
metamorphic rock. There used to be a lot of
sedimentary rock, before erosion happened. Each
ridged pattern in the park was eroded by the erosion
of paleozoic and mesozoic erosion of the sedimentary
rocks . Now the erosion surrounds a core of uplifted
Precambrian granite.
General Topography
As you look at Rocky Mountain National Parks topography you will notice most of
the contour lines are close together, hence showing that The Rocky Mountains have
a lot of elevation. If you look at the maps below you will see how the topographic
map compares to the actual picture. The map in the bottom bright corner shows a
topographic map of Longs Peak, the highest mountain in the National Park. In the
bottom left you will see a normal map of Longs Peak.
As you can see the mountain almost goes straight up that’s why the lines right
there(arrow) are so close together
Majority of Population
One city is grand lake with a population of 447.
Estes Park which has the highest population of 6,543.
People mainly live in Estes park.
It is a very remote city.
It is also a very big city.
Where rocks are found and
how do they affect landforms?
Wherever you are in Rocky Mountain National Park
you should be able to find rocks. They can be found on
river beds making sediment deposit differently.
Metamorphic rocks around lakes help keep the water
in the lake because of the rocks hardness and
durability. Sedimentary rocks in the park are mainly
found near caves. If you’re a tourist and you like rocks
check these places to find some.
How landforms form over tiime
Rocks are formed over millions of years or less by many
things such as lava cooling and hardening. This can
make many types of minerals. Landforms can also be
formed by glaciers retreating , standing, or advancing.
They can also be made by sea levels rising or lowering.
They can also be created by erosion of rocks. Some
examples are Grand Lake Colorado formed by a glacier.
Other examples of these things are rivers that erode
the earth.
Types of rocks
Red rocks are part of the Rocky Mountains they
actually came of a big mountain. They came from the
sea and over time when we raised up from water it was
a thick layer of sedimentary rock. So the rocks there
are easy to break. Also when it came up at of water it
took a long time to build up and make it shape that it
has today and till this day it’s still eroding. In a few
million years the rock will go through the rock cycle
again so the rock types will change. So maybe because
at this moment the rocks are sedimentary it would be
sandstone or red rock So for people who are visiting
should come and see what our state has to offer.
Works/Jobs in the park
The jobs in the park can be park rangers or a fishing
guides. Also a miner. Maybe even a tour guides for
visitors . That’s all the jobs in the park I can think of.
These are not average jobs that are in the city. Cities in
Rocky Mountain National Park have average jobs such
as banking, writing/journalism etc...
Deposits now and in the past
Rocky Mountain National Park has many signs of
deposition now and in the past. Grand lake is one
example it was formed by a glacier many years ago in
some areas you can find moraines of different
sediment. Today rivers of snow melt carry sediment to
lakes.
