Our Rocks Special thanks to Raquel, Shelby, and Eva. Sedimentary Rock Sedimentary rock is formed by pieces of broken rock as it flows . Along it builds into layers called sediments . The characteristics ,shale is a sedimentary rock made up of tiny dust side pieces of sediment. Sandstone is a sedimentary rock made up of sediment pieces the size of sand grains. Igneous Rock Igneous rocks are formed when magma gets trapped in small pockets and slowly cools into igneous rock. They can form under or above ground. When igneous rocks are formed underground they have BIG crystals. When they are formed above ground they have small crystals. Igneous rocks contain different amount of different kinds of rock. Some examples of igneous rock are basalt, gabbro, pumice, obsidian. The Characteristics are Silver and brownish gold coloring and bits of glass that look like topaz. When the rock is changed by heat and pressure the new rock is called metamorphic rock. Metamorphic rock can form from any other rock. The different types of rocks are Schist, Gneiss, Slate, Quartzite, and Marble. Our rock is silver and it has bit of topaz. It comes of gritty it is flat on one side and bumpy on the other side.
