Catholic Ecology Living our Faith through Creation Care and Climate Change Advocacy A free and public panel discussion will consider pressing ecological questions from the perspective of Catholic theology. September 24, 2014 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Saint Louis University Center for Global Citizenship 3672 West Pine Mall Most Reverend Edward M. Rice Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of St. Louis Rev. Rice will review authentic Catholic teaching about care for God’s Creation. Benjamin de Foy, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Saint Louis University Dr. de Foy will present an overview of climate change science from the basics to current discoveries. Meg Olson Director of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development at Catholic Charities St. Louis Ms. Olson will discuss the Catholic understanding of environmental justice and its relation to poverty. Daniel R. DiLeo, M.T.S Project Manager of the Catholic Climate Covenant Mr. DiLeo will discuss the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Faithful Citizenship and climate change advocacy on the proposed EPA carbon pollution rule. Julie Hanlon Rubio, Ph.D. Professor of Christian Ethics, Department of Theology at Saint Louis University Dr. Rubio will moderate the panel discussion. This event is cosponsored by the Catholic Climate Covenant and Saint Louis University’s Departments of Theology, Philosophy, Biology, and Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and Center for Sustainability.
