EX. A sudden……… •Ankle Sprain •Back Strain •Fracture Signs of an Acute Injury • • • • • • • Sudden, severe pain Swelling Limited Range of Motion Pressure applied causes pain Extreme weakness of the structure Heat due to an increase of blood flow A bone or joint visible or out of place *Note: these can occur suddenly during any physical activity. R.I.C.E. Treatment R.I.C.E. Treatment Cont. • R:est is key to prevent further injury. It is also important because your body needs to conserve energy to have time to properly heal. • I:ce is used to limit blood flow, reduce swelling and decrease pain • *REMEMBER: Never leave ice directly on the skin for more than 20mins. This may result in tissue damage. R.I.C.E. Treatment Cont. •C:ompression aids in the healing process by reducing swelling. •E:levation ensures the blood is circulating correctly so no blood clots form and also helps in reducing swelling.
