Having a Safe Attitude
Why is Safety Important
• Safety hazards exist in any laboratory.
• Must be aware and take precautions to
reduce risks of an accident.
• You can avoid accidents if you understand
how to use equipment and materials and
follow procedures properly.
Specific Safety Hazards
• Follow specific instructions to use
materials and equipment safely.
Chemicals
• Chemicals used in this course are
dangerous.
• Follow all rules to avoid accidents.

Heat Sources
• Use caution when using heat sources, and
never leave them unattended.
• Sources of heat: Bunsen burner, hot
plates and light bulbs.

Glass and Sharp Objects
• All glass ware must be handled with care,
breakage creates sharp edges and
splinters.

Electricity and Light
• Electric and lights source can give electric
shocks.
