• Cardiovascular System- system of heart and
blood vessels working together
• Heart- pumps the blood throughout the body
• Lungs- helps you breathe in oxygen and exhale
carbon dioxide
• Oxygen- a gas that you inhale that the blood
takes from the lungs

• Carbon Dioxide- a gas that the blood brings
from the body to the lungs for you to exhale
• Arteries- carries blood away from the heart
• Veins- carries blood toward the heart
• Asthma- a condition that keeps people from
breathing well
• Nutrients- food solution carried by the blood
to the body

THE HEART
The heart is located in the middle of the body.
It is about the size of your fist.

THE HEART
The heart pumps blood all over
the body. When you exercise,
the heart beats faster to pump
blood to the muscles. When
you sleep, the heart slows
down. This is so the heart and
body can rest.

The heart and lungs work together and
are protected by the ribs. When you
exercise, the lungs and heart work faster
to deliver oxygen to your muscles.

Asthma
• Asthma is a condition that keeps people from
breathing well. It is not contagious so you can
not catch it from someone that has it.
• When someone has asthma, they can have an
asthma attack when they exercise. An inhaler
can be used to help them breathe easier.
