Linear Equations
The
Slope-Intercept
Form
The Slope-Intercept Form is
a standard way to express
a linear equation.
Remember: A linear equation shows how the
x-coordinate and the y-coordinate work together to
form a line on the coordinate plane.
The Slope-Intercept Form is
Y = MX + B.
Y is the ycoordinate.
M is the slope.
X is the xcoordinate.
B is the y-intercept.
Remember:

The y-coordinate tells us how far to count up
or down when making our point. The ycoordinate is the second number in the ordered
pair. For example, if the ordered pair is (-3,5),
we count up five spaces to make our point.

The x-coordinate tells us how far to count right
or left when making our point. It is the first
number in the ordered pair. For example, if the
ordered pair is (-3,5), we count 3 spaces to the
left to make our point.
