Extending the workload of the
3000 series calibrators
Laboratories usually have to calibrate a very wide
variety of instruments.
Normally the volume of these ‘odd’ instruments is
small, and this is in part some of the problem. It
produces a requirement to provide a cost effective
method to calibrate these instruments.
This is where the Transmille offers a real
alternative. As a calibration laboratory ourselves
we suffer the same problem, and we know to sub
contract instruments can lose the whole contract.
So what can the Transmille Calibrate

Transmille offer a range of options to cover all
the standard products just as the other
calibrators, e.g. DMMs, Clamp Meters, Power
Meters, Oscilloscopes, Frequency Counters,
Thermometers, Pressure etc.
But what about the other instruments?
- In Transmille’s laboratory we have to calibrate
- all sorts ….
Question you ask before you buy a calibrator.
 How
can I calibrate an RCL Meter ?
RCL meters are not uncommon, and almost every laboratory
will need to calibrate these.
The 3000 series uses passive resistors and capacitors, and is the
only calibrator on the market with an inductance option.
Its no problem with the Transmille calibrator….
Question to ask before you buy a calibrator.
 How
can I calibrate an Tacho Meter ?
Tachometers are commonly used in industry, and often appear
in the calibration workload.
With the adaptor for the Transmille, optical tachometers can be
calibrated quickly and without any difficulty, transforming the
situation from ‘how do I do this’ to ‘its done’

How
can I calibrate a HV Probe?
High voltage probes are not uncommon, and are not difficult to
calibrate, but with all other calibrators the answer is ‘we can’t’.
With a Transmille calibrator and the HV amplifier its easy.

 How
can I calibrate a Power Supply?
This must be one of the most common instruments, yet only Transmille offer
an easy to use low cost solution.
The EA3023 not only measures the power supply output voltage up to
60volts (using the measurement capability of the pod input), but also
provides an accurate current load up to 4Amps. Output resistance can also
be measured and there
is even a wizard in Procal
to create procedures.

 How
can I calibrate an Electrometer/Pico
amp meter?
Keithley and others manufacture a wide range of low current meters with
scales down to only a few nano amps. These are often used in semiconductor
manufacturing or for high value resistance measurements.
A calibrator only covers ranges down to a few micro amps so these are not
suitable.
With the EA008 Transmille again provide a solution extending the range of the
calibrator down to 2nA.

 How
can I calibrate a 1Tohm resistor?
You can buy an expensive electrometer or make the most of your investment
in a Transmille calibrator by using low cost Pico amp converter EA008 for
the Transmille calibrator.
The ability to measure a high value resistance at a selected voltage is an
important ability in any laboratory, but it is always difficult to justify the
expense of an electrometer for the small number of calibrations performed
with it.
When you buy a calibrator you have already bought a precision voltage
source, (with a power supply, processor etc) and with the Transmille a high
accuracy A/D converter, so all that is needed to make the calibrator into a
full featured electrometer is the EA008 And software.

 How
can I calibrate a 2000A clamp
meter or high current shunts?
High current calibration is easily covered by expensive
Transconductance amplifiers… if you can justify the cost.
Often the volume of such work is small so this can be difficult.
With Transmille EA012, which has been custom designed to
work with the calibrator, there is a much lower cost solution.
Its no problem with the
Transmille calibrator…
Simply with Transmille you can
calibrate a wider range of
products for less money……
Use ProCal calibration software
and produce certificates in less
time as well…..
How can Transmille do all this ?
We are ourselves a commercial calibration
laboratory and the development of our
products has been drawn from the needs we
face daily in our own laboratory.
 To be competitive and successful (and
Transmille have grown 10 fold in the last 8
years) we needed the best software and
calibrators available. Finding the alternatives
inefficient we applied our design experience to
building something better.

Revolutionary Thinking or just
Evolution ?

The 3000 series design was to include the
‘pod’ connector which would allow the use of
a range of external adaptors specifically
designed to calibrate generic types of
instruments.
Revolutionary Thinking or just
Evolution ?

As the adaptors would not need power
supplies, processors, displays etc. they would
be low cost.

Measurements are made using a high accuracy
internal A/D converter built into the calibrator.
The adaptor simply has to scale all inputs to
10V.
Revolutionary Thinking or just
Evolution ?

The external adaptors could be designed to
perform a specific task, making them very
easy to use.
