USE 1 Unspecified Time Before Now
We use the Present Perfect to say that an action happened at an unspecified
time before now. The exact time is not important. We CAN use the Present
Perfect with unspecific expressions such as: ever, never, once, many times,
several times, before, so far, already,just, yet, etc.
EXAMPLES
•I have seen that movie twenty times.
•I think I have met him once before.
•There have been many earthquakes in California.
•Have you read the book ,yet?
•Nobody has ever climbed that mountain.
•A: Has there ever been a war in the United States?
B: Yes, there has been a war in the United States.
• He has just phoned me.
USE 2: WITH SINCE AND FOR
• SINCE shows the beginning of action
• FOR shows duration

USE 4: ACTION STARTED IN THE PAST, BUT
STOPS NOW ( UP TO NOW)

I have studied since you left. ( now I don’t anymore ! )
ADVERB PLACEMENT
Adverbs such as: always, only, never, ever,
just, already -are placed IN FRONT OF THE
MAIN VERB.
I have already visited London.
Have you ever visited London?
She has just left.
¡
“YET” is used only for interrogative and
negative and it is placed at the end.
He hasn’t left yet.

It is important to remember that NonContinuous Verbs cannot be used in any
continuous tenses:
Abstract Verbs
to be, to want, to cost, to seem, to need, to
care, to contain, to owe, to exist...
Possession Verbs
to possess, to own, to belong...
Emotion Verbs
Use them in
Present Perfect
Simple instead
to like, to love, to hate, to dislike, to fear,
to envy, to mind...
