• LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)
A type of display used in digital watches and many portable computers.
LCD displays utilize two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid
crystal
solution between them. An electric current passed through the liquid
causes the crystals to align so that light cannot pass through them. Each
crystal, therefore, is like a shutter, either allowing light to pass through
or blocking the light.

LCD Panel Type
• Mono (Monochrome): actually using two colors, one for the
display image (the foreground) and one for the background.
• STN (Super Twisted Nematic): using the Voltage to change
the liquid crystal twisted angle to see the display; maximum 90
point of view.
• DSTN (Double Super Twisted Nematic): a passive-matrix
LCD technology that uses two display layers to counteract the color
shifting that occurs with conventional super twist displays.
• TFT (Thin Film Transistor): in which each pixel is controlled
by from one to four transistors. The TFT technology provides the
best resolution of all the flat-panel techniques, but it is also the
most expensive. TFT screens are sometimes called active-matrix
LCDs.

LCD Support Flow
1. Customer, Sales person ask AE team to support LCD lightening up
service.
2. Customer fill in “ LCD Support Request Form “ to AXIOMTEK AE team.
3. AE team evaluate technical possibilities and check existing LCD
database.
4. Customer sign back “ LCD Lightening up Agreement “
5. Customer provide LCD Kit to AE
6. AE determine making LCD sample cable or not
7. AE Perform LCD Lightening up test ( hardware setup, function test,
application test)
8. AE will provide complete solution. (Inverter cable, LCD cable,
available VGA driver and BIOS)
Record all technical information to LCD support list. (AE).

Modify VGA BIOS
 VGA BIOS is the one of factor for lighting up LCD.
 VGA BIOS is a self–upgradeable ROM package.
Using C220.EXE to check VGA BIOS version (provide by Award) C220
84600A19.bin /d => 705SW75.ROM
 The modification programs are authorized by VGA
chip vendor.
1) Considering the control of BIOS version, we do not recommend
customer to modify the register of VGA BIOS.
2)If there is no matching type for customer’s LCD,AXIOMTEK will help
to modify a new BIOS but customer must provide the related data,
LCD…

1. How to know the maximum support
of
resolution and color?
 Memory size> (resolution x BIT pixel) / 8

For example:
2MBytes > (1024x768x16) /8 = 1.57MBytes
2MBytes > (1280x1024x8) /8 = 1.31MBytes
p.s. : 8 BIT pixel = 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 = 256 color

2. Why the display does not show full
screen in DOS mode when the BIOS LCD
type set over than 640x480 in GX1 board?
 The default display resolution is 640x480 in DOS
mode and GX1 does not support full screen function.
If your LCD specification is higher than 640x480, the
display will show narrower than your LCD screen.

3.You may question why we do not design cable
only for TTL LCD. Because of signal quality
improvement, we use the panel kit to transmit
LCD signal. For cost, quality control
Signal quality control (Data, Clock..).
Signal conversion from TTL to LVDS.
some of Panel Kit has been designed with conversion IC from
TTL to LVDS.
