COMPASSION: THE ENLIGHTENED ARHAT • WHILE STILL BEING ENGAGED IN THE AFFAIRS OF THIS WORLD, THE ARHAT NO LONGER IS ATTACHED TO THE WORLD, THEREFORE THE ARHAT IS PERFECTLY COMPASSIONATE TOWARD ALL LIVING THINGS. • HE IS FREE FROM THE IMPRISONMENT OF TANHA AND THUS FREE FROM DUKKHA • THEY HAVE LET GO OF ANY SENSE OF INDIVIDUAL EXISTENCE AND HAVE ACHIEVED SPIRITUAL PERFECTION NIRVANA • NIRVANA: “BLOWING OUT” – HAVING EXTINGUISHED ALL SELFISH DESIRE, THE ARHAT HAS ATTAINED COMPLETE LIBERATION FORM SAMSARA – THE RESULT IS INDESCRIBABLE JOY THREE RAFTS FOR CROSSING THE RIVER: DIVISIONS OF BUDDHISM FOR BUDDHISTS, RELIGION SERVES AS THE MEANS TO ACHIEVE NIRVANA THE CYCLE OF LIFE, SAMSARA, IS ON ONE SIDE OF THE RIVER; NIRVANA IS ON THE OTHER SIDE.
