What is a Rock?
A rock is a mixture of one or more
minerals, glass, and sometimes, organic
matter.
 Three main categories of Rocks:
- igneous
- metamorphic
- sedimentary

The Rock Cycle
What is a Rock Cycle?

Recycling
the Earth’s
material
Lithification

Process by which
unconsolidated
rock-forming
materials are
converted into
consolidated or
coherent state.
Sediment
lithification
Sedimentary Rock
Metamorphism

A process whereby
rocks undergo
physical or chemical
changes or both to
achieve equilibrium
with conditions
other than those
under
which they
were
originally
formed
Sedimentary Rock
metamorphism
Metamorphic Rock
Fusion

Change of a
substance from the
solid to the liquid
state, usually by
the application of
heat.
Metamorphic Rock
fusion
Magma
Crystallization

Process through
which crystals
separate from fluid,
viscous, or
dispersed state.
Magma
crystallization
Igneous Rock
Weathering, Erosion, and
Transfer

Weathering:Response
of materials once in
equilibrium within
earth's crust to new
conditions at or near
contact with water,
air, or living matter.

Erosion: Movement
of material from one
place to another on
Earth's surface.
Agents of movement
include gravity,
water, ice, and wind.
Weathering, Erosion, and
Transfer

Transfer: to carry
across
Igneous Rock

Human Impact on Rock Cycle

Rock cycle is an Earth interior system.

It is rarely influenced by human.
Basically the rock cycle is not affected by
human impact.
