Terms and definitions of the male reproductive system
1.
Bladder------Stores Urine
3.Vas Deferens---thin cords, passageway and
storage place for sperm
4.Penis– Organ of reproduction, it provides a passageway for the
urethra carrying urine or sperm. It is also the organ for sexual
pleasure, ie the orgasm.
5.Urethra- Passageway for semen and urine. It is about 9 inches long
and it goes through the prostate gland. A flap at the opening of the
bladder closes prior to ejaculation so urine and semen do not mix.
6. Epididymis– Comma shaped structure by the testes, it stores
immature sperm.
7. Foreskin– Fold of loose skin covering the penis. The skin is cut away during a
procedure called circumcision.
8. Glans Penis– Tip or head of the penis
9. Testicle (Testes)– gonads inside the scrotum, they produce testosterone and
sperm at the onset of puberty.
10. Scrotum– Sac like pouch in the groin that holds the testes and regulates the
temperature of the testes so sperm are viable.
11. Seminal Vesicles– 2 glands at the end of the vas deferens that secrete fluid that
provide energy to the sperm, the fluid is called semen.
13 Prostate Gland- Provides fluid for the sperm to live longer and it neutralizes
the vagina so the sperm do not die rapidly.
15. Cowpers Glands- These are small glands on each side of the urethra that
secrete a lubricating fluid as the male becomes aroused. The fluid contains
sperm. A pregnancy can occur without penetration of the vagina or ejaculation!

Male Physiology
Erection- an involuntary reaction that occurs when the penis fills with
blood. This is caused by a large number of sensitive nerve ending in the
penis and scrotum

Sperm are the smallest cells in the body, 0.05 millimeters

They can live about 1 month, then they die.
They have to swim about 8 inches to reach the egg.
Sperm swim about 5 mm per minute, and it’s in fact, five body
lengths of the sperm per second. So if you scaled them up, if
they were the size of a salmon, that would be the equivalent
of the salmon swimming along at 500 miles an hour, or a
whale doing 15,000 miles an hour. So the sperm are pretty
snappy. They get to the egg pretty fast, certainly within a day
or so.
Ejaculation- the expulsion of the seminal fluid
from the penis. A normal amount is equal to a
teaspoon and contains approximately 300-500
million sperm!!!! OMG how many sperm does
it take to fertilize an egg???
FYI- Sperm can live up to 5 days!
Orgasm- explosive discharge of neuromuscular
tension as a result of muscle contraction. It
helps sperm move through the urethra. There
is a rest period between orgasms.

Testicular cancer is the most common
type of cancer in males ages 15-35. It is
curable if caught early.

The exact causes of bowel cancer are not certain,
but it is believed that lifestyle and environmental
factors, such as a high-fat, low-fiber diet and a
lack of physical activity can contribute to the
disease. Polyps on the bowel, even if initially
benign, can become malignant and lead to cancer.
Colonoscopies are recommended for middle age
men for early diagnosis.
