Cumulus Leaders Workshop Training Jonathon Martin Student Director Friday 27 August 2010 What is it?? Cumulus is a centrally based digital asset management system. It enables a large number of people to access, modify, and manage a group of digital assets (computer files) from a central location. • Or, simply stated… Cumulus stores digital photos in a central location, allowing users to access and modify them while maintaining a single central library. Why do we use it?? 1). Organization • One stop shop for all Collaboratory images. In short…helps to keep things neat. 2). Redundancy • With only one local database, it decreases likelihood of having multiple copies. 3). Accessibility • The web client is available anywhere and the software is installed in computer labs. 3). Marketing • Messiah Publications has access to our photos to use in Messiah College editorials, web site, etc. Two Faces… Web Client Software Client •View/Retrieve Photos •View/Retrieve Photos •Accessible from anywhere •Accessible from campus •Add/Modify Photos Today’s Cumulus • Over 16,000 digital photos organized • • • • • Project Group People Site Team Event • Two Catalogs • Collaboratory Internal – Contains all photos that are put on Cumulus • Collaboratory Marketing – Contains the best photos that are chosen to be used for marketing purposes.
