Photosynthesis Review
What is
Photosynthesis?
• Is a process by which green plants
and other organisms synthesize
their own food using carbon
dioxide,water and light.
What are Autotrophs?
• Are organisms that are capable of synthesizing
its own food from inorganic
substances(carbon dioxide, iron, sulfur) using
light.
• Some examples are:
1. Green plants
2. Algae
3. certain bacteria
Types of Autotrophs
Photoautotroph
Autotrophs such as
plants, bacteria and
algae that depend on
photosynthesis for
both energy and
carbon compounds.
Chemoautotroph
Bacteria that obtain its
carbon from
photosynthesis and
obtains its energy from
inorganic substances
such as iron, sulfur or
other minerals.

Chlorophyll
Chlorophyll a light absorbing pigment that gives
plants their green color and converts the
energy of sunlight to food in the process known
as photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis consists of 2 parts: Light
reaction and Calvin Cycle
