Lions Clubs International Foundation By the Numbers From one life improved by the Lions Quest program to the millions who have received treatment for river blindness, everything LCIF does counts. Numbers are an easy way to keep track of what the Foundation has accomplished, but it’s hard to measure the true impact of our work on people and communities – or the emotional reward Lions get from helping those in need. 9,550 The number of grants awarded by LCIF since it was founded in 1968. To date, LCIF has awarded grants totaling more than US$680 million. 6 On average, the SightFirst initiative requires a donation of the only US$6 to save a person from blindness – or restore their sight. 131,000,000 Number of doses of Mectizan® distributed by LCIF to people in 15 countries around the world to treat and control river blindness. 10,000,000 The number of doses of the sight-saving drug Azithromycin® dispensed to Ethiopians at risk of trachoma in the first 18 months of a program supported by Lions of Ethiopia, the Ethiopian Government, the Carter Center and other organizations. 150,800 Number of athletes that the Lions Clubs International-Special Olympics Opening Eyes Program has screened at Special Olympics sporting events worldwide. 10,000,000 Number of children screened by Sight for Kids – a joint initiative of LCIF and Johnson & Johnson Vision Care – that provides vision screenings, eyeglasses and other treatment. 35 Number of need based Lions Eye Care Centers opened with the World Health Organization to deliver eye care services for more than 100 million children worldwide. 50 The number of countries where Lions Quest – a life skills program – is helping young people learn about tough issues such as drug abuse and violence. 120 The number of villages in Mali that received access to clean water as a result of a joint project involving Lions in Mali and France with help from LCF. 7,600,000 The number of cataract surgeries performed as part of the SightFirst program, bringing sight to millions of people worldwide/ 2,000,000 The amount awarded each year for disaster relief worldwide. LCIF funds immediate needs such as water, food and shelter, in addition to helping with long-term reconstruction efforts. 1,000 The number of homes built for people with disabilities through LCIF’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Help LCIF, help millions more!
