GUYANA GREEN CUSTOMS INITIATIVE BY DAVID HERMONSTINE GUYANA IS COMMITTED TO THE ENFORCEMENT OF TRADE RELATED MULTILATERAL ENVIRONMENTAL AGREEMENTS (MEAs) IN PARTICULAR • Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal • Cartegena Protocol on Biosafety • Conventionon International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) • Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer • Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade • Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants Role of Customs Officers • Ensure Compliance with the MEAs • Verify completeness of documentation • Ensure all licensing authorities issue the relevant licences (import/export) for shipments • Comply with Standing Operating Procedures (SOP) for examination of cargo • Work along with all the regulatory authorities to enforce regulations.
