Accountancy Education in Colombia
Membership of INCP is voluntary. In Colombia, the only requirements to obtain the Public Accountant
certification are to complete undergraduate studies in a college where the curriculum for Public Accountancy is
approved and to prove at least one year of experience in general accounting activities. This experience could have
been obtained before or after the university degree, under the supervision of a certified accountant. The applicant
must have Colombian nationality, or be a foreigner with at least three years of legal residency in Colombia.
The INCP promotes the adoption of International Education Standards related to technical training, professional
experience and continuing education. The Central Board of Accountants issues a public accountancy license to
applicants who have successfully completed a university degree in accounting and gained one year of accountingrelated work. Although CPD is not mandatory, the INCP promotes the continuous education program for its
members and third parties. Besides INCP, there are a variety of institutions related to the accountancy profession
in Colombia.
