Minimum Data Requirement (MDR) Challenges in the UN-ESCWA region Concluding, major gaps in WA … Background on 2008 SNA In February 2009 the Statistical Commission approved Vol. 2 of the 2008 SNA, thus completing a revision process of the 1993 SNA that started some 6 years ago in 2003 The revision was generated to bring the accounts in line with the new economic and financial environment, advances in methodological research, and users’ needs Guidelines for the revision process No fundamental or comprehensive change to the 1993 SNA that would impede its implementation Consideration of feasibility of implementation Consistency with related statistical systems Background on 2008 SNA cntd. 44 issues identified for review in the areas of: nonfinancial assets; financial services and instruments; government and public sector; RoW; units; informal sector and illegal activities Implementation strategy supported by the SC, based on actions to improve the NSSs: strategic planning, coordination, monitoring and reporting Five modalities of implementation: training, technical cooperation, manuals, research and advocacy The RCs and their advisory committees have an important role in facilitating coordination and regional cooperation in the SNA implementation Institutional set up discussed during the EGM on NA, Cairo, May 2009, close to arrangements for ICP Is the new 2008 SNA really new?
