Introduction and Mental Set
Ask students: Has anyone ever had the chicken pox? If they have, how did
they know that they did? Explain to them that this is a symptom. Discuss
other disease symptoms.

What is a symptom? The way a disease shows itself.

What is meant by contagious disease? A disease that can be

Mastitis - Bacterial infection of the udder of female cattle,
sheep, goats, and swine.
Roundworms and tapeworms - Stomach and intestinal worms

that is a particular problem for younger animals.
