species of animals and plants across the country
• Researches on the conservation of biological resources
• Research on the environment impact assessment of the
local areas
• Ecological assessment on the nature reserves
• Development of technologies for the restoration of
degraded ecosystems and habitats
• Improvement for the agro-ecological environment
• Preparation of national reports and recommendations for
the implementation of CBD
Research Achievements
• Recommendations/measures developed for the endemic
and threatened animals and plants
• Comprehensive investigation, assessment on the main
reserves
• Zonation of reserves and designation of new reserves
including Mt. Kuwol BR and Mt. Myohyang BR as
international biosphere reserves

(Restoration of Anbyon Crane Habitat Project )
•Assessment on the wetland ecosystem and preparation of
National Wetland Action plan
Research Achievements
2. Project Proposals
Project 1. Establishment of Biodiversity Monitoring System
Objective:
To build the capacity for the improvement of conservation and management of biodiversity by establishing
the biodiversity identification and monitoring system at local and national level.
Activities:
•
Arranging the analysis and assessment of current state of biodiversity hotspots
•
Selecting and identifying the monitoring station sites in project areas
•
Providing and delivering the necessary information, software and all facilities
 Arranging the national and international training for delivered software, technologies and
facilities.
 Arranging meetings for identification of standard monitoring indicators and method for
biodiversity monitoring
 Developing the biodiversity monitoring regulations and its dissemination
 Arranging the workshop and study tour to review the current situation and learn the
methodologies for capacity building
•
Arranging the training for biodiversity experts, officials in monitoring stations and rangers
•
Building biodiversity database in project areas and promoting their connection with
National CHM.
•
Introducing and propagating the importance of biodiversity monitoring through mass
media.
Project 2. Updating of the “Red Data Book” and
capacity- building for the conservation of
threatened species
Objective:
To update the existing “Red Data Book” (animal and plant) and build the capacity for in-situ
and ex-situ conservation of threatened species by assessing the priority order of
threatened species conservation.
Activities:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Reinvestigating and reassessing the threatened species of plant and animal
Re-identifying the priority order of threatened species conservation;
Assess the MVP of major threatened species;
Transferring the appropriate technologies for habitat diversity;
Designing the ecological corridors between habitats;
Preparing, publishing and disseminating the updated “Red Data Book”
Developing and technical transferring for captive breeding of major threatened species in
botanical gardens and zoo
Establishing a species registration system for the threatened species which are ex-situ
conserved;
Developing plans and framework for the return of main threatened species to nature
Project 3 Conservation of Black-faced spoonbill and
cranes
Objective:
To identify the breeding site and improve the conservation of Black faced
Spoonbill and cranes, the world threatened species.
Activities:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
Arranging survey on the breeding sites of black-faced spoonbill and
regularly monitor and research their breeding conditions.
Investigating and improving the conservation of breeding places of blackfaced spoonbill.
Re-evaluating the habitat conditions of wintering and transit area of cranes.
Improving the research on and implementation of the dispersion of
wintering areas of Red crowned crane.
Improving the eco-environment of expected wintering areas of cranes.
Strengthening the legislations for the conservation of black-faced spoonbill
and crane.
Creating the demonstration site of community-based reserve management.
