In the Roman civilization: the wife was the purchased property of her husband, and like a slave acquired only for his benefit. According to the English Common Law: women can not possess any property. Though the situation has improved. In the Encyclopedia Biblical decree, , the consent of the girl was not necessary for the validation of her marriage. "The girl's consent is unnecessary and the need for it is nowhere suggested in the Law.“ In the Mosaic Law, divorce was a privilege of the husband only Islam has established the status of women in various aspects- such as Allah says, Al Imran:195 انى ال أضيع عمل عامل منكم من ذكر اوانثى I will not ruin the work of any of you whether male or female. Sura Nahal 19:97 . من عمل صالحا من ذكر اوانثى وهو مؤمن فلنحيينه حيوة طيبة ولنجزينهم اجرهم باحسن ما كانوا يعملون “Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, verily to him will We give a new life that is good and pure, and We will bestow on such their reward according to the their actions.” Sura Nisa 4:124 .....من يعمل من الصالحات من ذكر او انثى وهو مؤمن فأ لئك يدخلون الجنة Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, they will enter into heaven So, what we understood ? • No gender discrimination in the aspect of Ibadat as a Mother as a Daughter as a Wife kindness to Parents next to the Ibadat of Allah الجنة تحت اقدام االمهات Paradise lies under feet of the mothers. Sura bani israil: 23: وقضى ربك االتعبدوا اال اياه وبالوالدين احسانا اما يبلغن عندك الكبر احدهما .....اوكالهما فالتقل لهما اف والتنهرهما قل لها قوال كريما “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.” Hadith Mother Mother Mother Father • Whosoever has a daughter and he does not bury her alive, does not insult her, and does not favor his son over her, Allah will enter him into Paradise. (Ibn Hanbal, No. 1957). • Whosoever supports two daughters till they mature, he and I will come in the day of judgment as this (and he pointed with his two fingers held together). : ..هن لباسلكم وانتم لباسلهن.. ..they are your garments you are their garments… Rasul (sm.) declared, …they are the best among you who are the best to their wives.” # Consent of marriage: Ibn Abbas reported that a girl came to the Rasul (sm.), and she reported that her father had forced her to marry without her consent. The Messenger of God gave her the choice . . . (between accepting the marriage or invalidating it). # Rights of Mahr: Obligatory bridal-money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage. Sura Nisa: 4 اتوا النساء صدقاتهن نحلة (and give to the women their Mahr with a good heart) # Right of divorce: When the continuation of the marriage relationship is impossible for any reason, men are still taught to seek a gracious end for it. But In the Mosaic Law divorce was a privilege of the husband only.
