Introduction
Introduction
Key issues
Presentation 2003
• Generic application that can connect to any database using ODBC or
customised API.
• Has a query database that contains query information and also a user
database that can be central or local.
• Main query information is; target database information and an SQL
statement. Having a SQL statement is having a fully functional report.
Then query formatting parameters can be defined to get a graph, sub-totals,
cube etc.
• Very easy to change or add a new report.
Page 2
P-A Angenius, WinGADD_Presentation_2003a.ppt
• Focus on that it should be easy for any user to create and use a report. No
education should be needed.
Introduction
Functionality - Publish and Export data of the report
Presentation 2003
• Quickly preview and print the report without
adjustments from the user.
• Save the report as HTML for publishing on the
Intranet.
• Export the report as PDF for e.g. Acrobat Reader.
• Export the report to EXCEL for e.g. further
analysing. Define post calculation in EXCEL that is
unique for each report.
• Manually or automatically export to MS Access.
• Save result as ADO recordset, micro-cube and other
formats to interact with web solutions.
Page 3

• Present the report as a graph and cube.

2nd Target
Database
Reports can contain data from one or
several databases (Target Databases).
The user does not need to know where
(what database) the data is retrieved from.

Database
Target database can be user dependent if there
exists many installations on e.g. regional, country
or local level. The user is connected to one of the
databases dependent on user settings.

Display Report
2nd Target
Database
Data is collected from several databases
and saved in a temporary storage. The
collected data is presented in one report
containing all data.
Temporary
Storage
3rd Target
Database
The user do not need to know that the
data is collected from several databases.
