Solar System • The sun and all the planets that orbit it make up our solar system. 2. Galaxy • A collection of stars, gas and dust held together by gravity. 3. Universe • All matter and energy, including galaxies and intergalactic space. 4. Star • A huge ball of gas held together by gravity. • The center core of a star is extremely hot and produces energy. 5. Planet • An object with a spherical shape that orbits a star. • Has cleared its neighborhood area of other material. 6. Moon • A natural satellite revolving around a planet. 7. Constellation • A group of stars made into a figure or design. • Named after ancient myths, animals and objects. 8. Dwarf Planet • Orbits a star. • Near Spherical. • Has NOT cleared its orbit area of other debris. • Is NOT a satellite SEDNA Planet or not? What about Xena? 9. Gas Giant • Planets outside the asteroid belt. • Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are Gas Giants. 10. Terrestrial Planets • Planets inside the asteroid belt. • Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are terrestrial planets.
