German minority – settled there in 14th century

economic crisis -> more than half went to America

minority moved to other north “empty” regions,
directed by Hitler,
after war to Austria then mostly to America
German inhabitants: Before 12.000, after 94 in 1948,
Slovene inhabitants remain

until 1990
regional and cultural heritage loss:
176 villages -> less than 70 exist
(also because of fires during the war)
