The OPC Servers for LONWORKS® The OPC technology presents todays standard for visualization and monitoring systems to access field level data. By this standardized interface SCADA systems communicate with PLCs and field busses, production level data are thus integrated into office applications. Even data exchange with other field bus systems is made this way. The Easylon OPC Server was the first OPC server for LONWORKS. Since that time it underwent continuous modifications and improvements. Today different types are available, each having its specific advantages but all showing lots of similarities. OPC server operates in a client/server architecture. The Easylon OPC Server runs on a PC at the LONWORKS network. It provides, in an always updated database, information about the LONWORKS network objects (nodes, network variables) as OPC objects and realizes packaging, conversion and update of these objects. As server the Easylon OPC Server accepts subscriptions from several clients and takes care of updating subscribed NVs as soon as their values change within the LONWORKS network or due to external settings. The Easylon OPC Servers enable any OPC Client to access the LONWORKS network. They are compliant with the OPC Data Access Specification. Compatibility with many clients has been proven in hundreds of customer applications all over the world and in special interoperability workshops of the OPC Foundation Next to the use with standard client software for visualization simple client solutions can easily be realized. Examples for use with Office programs and Visual Basic are provided. Of course the OPC servers can be simultaneously used by several clients. As customary with OPC, clients on other PCs can access the Easylon OPC Server via the PC network. The Easylon OPC Servers are available in three types: Easylon OPC Server M for networks at which a LNS server is not permanently present. Easylon OPC Server L for networks at which a LNS server is permanently present. Easylon OPC Server E, an embedded OPC server device for networks at which a LNS server is not permanently present. Demo Versions Demo versions are available from the internet for the OPC Servers M and L. These versions offer full functionality, however, they have a limited runtime. By purchasing a license key these versions can be activated for regular operation. Languages The Easylon OPC Servers usually have an English language user interface. The L typer can as well be started with a German or a Russian user interface. Licensing There are large networks and small ones. Therefore Easylon OPC Servers can be licensed in different scales, depending on the number of NVs monitored. Details you will find in the price list. The license key is always coupled to some hardware. The NeuronID or node-ID of the network interface is used for the OPC Server M, for the L type it is the MAC address of the PC. Technical Features OPC server for OPC Data Access V2.05a OPC browser hierarchical or flat Single fields in structured data types can be accessed Tree view of the network Simulation modus with generation of off-line values Value writing out of the OPC server Examples for Excel and Visual Basic OPC Servers M and L are Windows applications for PCs with Windows NT and later. The OPC Server E is a standalone solution in a robust embedded PC with LonWorks and Ethernet connections. While the OPC Server L requires a LNS Server at the network, the two others can operate at any unknown network. Functional range and handling are to a large extent similar for the OPC servers L and M. In these respects the embedded OPC server E is different. Specific differences you can find in the following descriptions. Gesytec GmbH, Pascalstr. 6, 52076 Aachen, Germany Tel.:+(49) 24 08 / 944-0, email: [email protected], URL: www.gesytec.com Easylon® OPC Server M OPC Server for LONWORKS® Networks Without LNS Server Reliable OPC server for data access Operates with unknown networks Network variable browser Diagnosis features, simulation modus Binding support LNS PlugIn provided Technical Features Unlimited network size Data access by polling or binding Network variables and configuration properties supported SNVT/SCPT and UNVT/UCPT supported Single fields in structured data types can be accessed Scan/upload of LONWORKS network for automatic configuration Documented Microsoft Access data base format Tree representation of the network Diagnosis of OPC interface, LONWORKS interface and LONWORKS devices Simulation modus Value writing out of the OPC server Parameterization of log file Detailed settings for time response and OPC data types XIF editor for variable definition provided Up to eight instances on one PC The Easylon OPC Server M gives any OPC clients access to LONWORKS networks. It is characterized by its intuitional and practical handling. The software is best solution for networks at which a LNS server is not permanently present. Up to eight instances of the OPC server can be installed in parallel on one PC. This allows simultaneous access to several LONWORKS networks. The Easylon OPC Server M learns about the network structure and all relevant node information by scan and upload. This information is stored in a MS Access data base. Alternatively a LNS PlugIn can be used to export this database from a network management tool. In a tree view of the network topology all nodes are listed with network variables (NV) and configuration properties. The monitoring modus dynamically displays the values of these variables. Furthermore, values can be written into the nodes from this view. A very helpful feature while commissioning a network. The OPC browser displays available values in the same hierarchy as the OPC server itself, thus realizing a universal naming structure of the values. The OPC server itself reports its usage by clients, stating the connected clients and the respective groups and items. A further diagnosis feature is the extensive log file, which can be parameterized. Usually the OPC server gets current values by explicit requests. Furthermore it is possible to define bindings. The xif editor allows to set NVs for the OPC server itself. Thus the OPC server will become a LonWorks node to which values from the network can be bound. This is especially recommended for failure and alarm messages. Using output variables in the OPC server commands can be issued by group binding to several nodes at the same time. This reduces programming for the visualization. It is characterized by its intuitional and practical handling. The software is best solution for networks at which a LNS server is permanently present. Up to eight instances of the OPC server can be installed in parallel on one PC. This allows simultaneous access to several LONWORKS networks. As LNS client the software quasi realizes an OPC interface to the LNS server. The network structure is automatically synchronized with the LNS data base. If a node is added there it will be available at the OPC interface without any user action. The OPC interface thus will always be up-to-date even with modifications of the network. Parameterization of the visualization can be done parallel to commissioning of the LONWORKS network. The Easylon OPC Server L can even access the LNS server by remote connection using either TCP/IP or LONWORKS. Of course, all network interfaces supported by LNS can be used. However we recommend VNI interfaces, especially the Easylon VNI Interfaces, as these offer a better performance. The representation of the network topology in the OPC server corresponds to that in the LNS data base. In a tree view of the network topology all nodes are listed with network variables (NV) and configuration properties. In monitoring mode variable values are dynamically updated. From the same view values can be written into the nodes, a very helpful feature while commissioning a network. The best performance is reached using monitor sets, as LNS thus its shows best results in monitoring data points. Definition of monitor sets is done in an intuitive way by using drag & drop functionality. In the Eaasylon OPC Server L version for LNS turbo edition monitor sets are automatically generated. Binding to the network interface are, of course, supported. These have to be defined with the network management tool. Based on a Gipsy 2000 LE embedded PC it offers a high degree of reliability. This stand-alone solution can easily be integrated into systems without any software integration than the client server connection. The Easylon OPC Server E is characterized by its intuitional and practical handling. The software is best solution for networks at which a LNS server is not permanently present. Operation and configuration of this OPC server is made the OPCAdmin program. Installed on a PC it connects to the Gipsy 2000 LE by Ethernet. The OPC server learns about the network structure and all relevant node information by scan and upload. This information is stored in a local data base. This data base and all other settings can be read from the Gipsy 2000 LE by means of OPCAdmin, saved and reconstituted. The same format as with the Easylon OPC Server M is used. This means, that the LNS PlugIn of the OPC Server M can be used to generate a data base, which then can be uploaded to the Gipsy 2000 LE. The OPCAdmin displays the network topology in a tree view of nodes and network variables (NV). In the monitoring modus the values of these variables are dynamically displayed. Furthermore, values can be written into the nodes from this view. A very helpful feature while commissioning a network. If an OPC client accesses the server via the OPC interface data is displayed in the same hierarchical order as in the servers user interface. Usually the OPC server gets current values by explicit requests. Furthermore it is possible to define bindings. The xif editor allows to set NVs for the OPC server itself. These variables are added to a copy of the configuration (created with OPCAdmin) and are then uploaded into the Gipsy 2000 LE. Thus the OPC server will become a LONWORKS node to which values from the network can be bound. This is especially recommended for failure and alarm messages. Using output variables in the OPC server commands can be issued by group binding to several nodes at the same time. This reduces programming for the visualization.
