Alcatel OmniVista 2000 Series
Network Management for Enterprise Switches
The OmniVista 2000 Series is a comprehensive set of network management
solutions that offer applications and tools designed to simplify the management of
Alcatel networking devices. OmniVista 2000 allows managers to monitor network
activity, configure and troubleshoot each device, and manage an entire network
from a single platform.
OmniVista has a true client/server architecture that allows multiple users to access its
services simultaneously. It delivers network level management while providing access to
various element managers. Functionality includes:
Unified management: provides a common graphical interface and network management
infrastructure for performing management functions, integrating applications, and unifying
element management across multiple devices.
Network-wide visibility: gives managers an extensive view and in-depth reporting of
network activity with functions such as discovery, physical and logical topology maps,
centralized event management, graphs, and statistical information.
Element management: provides direct access to each device through its native element
manager and allows all networking devices to be configured from a centralized location.
Policy-based QoS: enables simplified QoS configuration. OneTouch QoS is provided by
PolicyView, an optional application designed for easy implementation of policy-based
management and QoS across multiple switches.
Scalable architecture: provides single-user and multi-user versions and an extensible
architecture with applications that allow the OmniVista 2000 environment to be tailored to
the user’s network and budget needs.
The OmniVista 2000 Series includes three sets of applications:
• OmniVista 2500 Core NMS Application for network-wide management
• OmniVista 2700 Supplemental Applications for extended capabilities
• OmniVista 2200 Element Management Applications for accessing individual
network devices
OmniVista 2500 Core NMS Application
The OmniVista 2500 Core NMS application is the foundation for managing
networks composed of Alcatel network devices. The OmniVista 2500 gives
administrators a unified view of the network as well as the necessary functions
and services required to support next generation devices and applications. The
OmniVista 2500 provides:
• Discover y of network devices and topology maps
• Event management and health monitoring with alarms
• Graphical and statistical performance information
• Reports and switch auditing features
• Multi-level administration and security
• Automatic creation of VLANs across multiple switches
• A locator that finds the current location of PCs by MAC or IP address
OmniVista 2700 Supplemental Applications
The OmniVista 2700 Supplemental Applications are optional software
applications that include PolicyView with OneTouch QoS and ATM
AccountingView. These applications can be added to the OmniVista
environment as desired to extend the capabilities of OmniVista 2000.
PolicyView with OneTouch QoS: simplifies the complex task of configuring QoS
and enables enhanced policy-based management across multiple devices.
ATM AccountingView: provides the ability to collect ATM call detail records
across multiple devices for ATM environments.

OmniVista 2200 Element Management Applications
The OmniVista 2000 environment unifies element management across
the network and provides access to each device through its graphical
element manager.
There are two types of element management: Web-based element
management and the OmniVista 2200 Element Management
Applications. The element managers associated with each device
depends on the switch architecture.
Web-based element management is available for switches with embedded
Web-enabled managers. Web-based element managers do not require
any installation.
Web-Based Manager: allows access to switches with a standard Web
browser for ease of management. Supported switches include OmniStack
6124, 6148, and 8008.
WebView: is a new breed of Web-based element management for the next
generation OmniSwitch 6600/7000/8800 products. It provides advanced
capabilities that are easy to use for configuring the OmniSwitch family.
The OmniVista 2200 Element Management Applications run as client
applications in the OmniVista 2000 environment and are available for
popular platforms.
Switch Manager: supports many switches in the Omni family and runs on
Windows, Solaris, HP-UX platforms.
TrackView: Java-based element manager that supports devices in the
OmniCore family and includes the ability to configure policies on each switch.
OmniVista 2500 Core Applications, OmniVista 2730 PolicyView with
OneTouch QoS, and OmniVista 2710 ATM AccountingView are 100% Javabased and can run on virtually any device in a Java environment. Certification
has been completed on these platforms: Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000,
HP-UX 11.0, and Solaris 2.7 and 2.8. Some of the element managers require
specific platforms. Refer to the OmniVista 2000 Element Management data
sheet for details.
