Microsoft Corporation
As a member of the Office 365 operation team, I program managed between application
engineering, network engineering and datacenter operation staff to ensure "site-up" through process
improvement, reliability engineering initiatives and accurate capacity planning. Office 365 is
Microsoft Office cloud computing platform consist of multi- tiered distributive systems with SQL Azure base and HTML5 enabled Office suites
as applications. I drove and provided forecast and plan for capacity expansion, monthly capacity
plan and overall site reliability design. Responsible for end to end reliability improvement program which begin with reliability analysis at
each layer of the cloud computing platform. Initiated and drove corresponding projects to improve
site reliability of physical, platform, network and application layers. Worked with datacenter
managers to audit and analyze overall redundancy of datacenters and devise plans to remediate weak links. Improved overall end to end
site reliability index to help successfully launched Office 365 product in 10 datacenters globally. • Derived capacity plan from power, space and network perspective to ensure adequate capacity
were in place 6 month ahead of forecast build up. • Led site-reliability engineering effort by first determined weak links then drove improvement of
overall site reliability. Initiated the Application and Network Seamlessly Integration (ANSI-D)
project to ensure simplification of network design integrated with active-active application
development for the next generation Office 365 cloud computing platform • Improved monthly reporting KPIs and drove the tool development to gather proper KPI
measurements for site up reliability and capacity usage accuracy • Responsible for end to end projects and management on all capacity planning, forecasting, site
reliability engineering and deployment initiatives for the Office 365 product groups • Planned table top exercises for all datacenters to determine missing process and procedures for
disaster recovery event. Ensured proper methods of operations would be followed in such
event Highlight: Improved site reliability from 96.5% to 99.5% Charlie Cheng
