GOVERNMENT > Service > Global Xpress Applications enabled by Global Xpress Live full-motion video Operational theatre backhaul Tactical communications Video teleconferencing Command and control (C2) Situational awareness Battlefield information systems IP multicast Disaster recovery Emergency response Global Xpress for U.S. Government Land Expeditionary Operations Purposely designed for mobility, Global Xpress delivers a secure, flexible worldwide Ka-band network allowing land expeditionary forces to deploy at a moment notice - anywhere, anytime. The U.S. government relies on Inmarsat – its largest global mobile commercial SATCOM provider – for mission-critical communications in some of the most volatile regions of the world. Built from the ground up with highly mobile government users in mind, Inmarsat’s Global Xpress brings distinguished offerings and capabilities for land expeditionary operations. Communications on the move (COTM) require warfighters on missions to share information in real-time while heading anywhere in the world. Communications on the pause (COTP) demand that these warfighters access the same level of satellite-enabled bandwidth when they arrive. Given the stakes, mission success hinges upon high-performing voice, data and video that “moves” with troops while they’re en route, and “stays” with them once they’ve reached their destination. For many missions where using portable mobile solutions isn’t optimal, the military has depended on traditional satellite communications designed for “fixed” operations, such as giant, earth-based stations. This forces units to anticipate and acquire in advance how much coverage and capacity they’ll need at a particular location – a scenario which poses logistical hurdles and the risk of insufficient connectivity. Global Xpress eliminates this because it supplies universal coverage under a single subscription for government users – they get what they need, when they need it, wherever they are. Built from the ground up as a worldwide satellite service, it complements the U.S. government’s Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system and provides uniform Ka-band coverage delivered as ‘Satcom as a Service’ or Military-ka lease. This allows government customers to quickly and cost-effectively augment the WGS system as needed. Through Global Xpress, land expeditionary forces can move easily from region to region throughout the world, using the same terminals at an affordable rate. Users access Global Xpress through a variety of existing and planned government and commercial SATCOM terminals that feature “one-touch” commissioning, which makes it as easy-to-use as a cell phone. These lightweight terminals, including WGS terminals support COTM and COTP mission requirements. This gives government customers the flexibility of having a broad selection of terminals. Additionally, Inmarsat’s Global Xpress Ka-band service is backed-up via our Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) L-band services over the Inmarsat-4 (I-4) satellite constellation. The unique combination of Ka-band and L-band further guarantees global portability and consistent performance with high-throughput and the industry’s leading all-weather availability. The redundancy introduced into Inmarsat’s ground infrastructure ensures robust terrestrial links to support government communications. Inmarsat’s U.S. government users can trust that our secure network infrastructure provides reliable assured access that is built to meet cybersecurity best-practices and is supported by a dedicated cyber security team. Global Xpress commercial services and infrastructure are built to meet U.S. DoD 8500 Mission Assurance Category (MAC) level III/ National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-53 Low Assurance standards. Global Xpress secure enclave and network can be built to meet higher security standards requirements.’ Inmarsat is the U.S. government’s #1 provider of mobile satellite services, with a 35-year track record of proven reliability, security and affordability.
